Page 76 of Kissing Her Rescuer

“Mommy, look!” Carrie twirled around in the middle of the diner, her hand wrapped around Becky's finger, her dress flowing out.

“That's so pretty,” Eliza said.

The door to the diner opened. Juliana stepped in, wearing an A-line, pink dress with Grayson in a tailored gray suit right behind her. After a delayed flight, they’d finally made it in from Australia. She would be the next person to tell about the pregnancy. Right after she managed to find a moment to tell Dewey.

She squeezed Dewey's hand and dropped it, maneuvering around the room until she came to stand in front of her sister.

Juliana's eyes roamed down Eliza's dress and back up. They narrowed. With her focus on Eliza, she gently shoved Grayson toward the rest of her family. “Grayson, can you give us a second?”

“I’m going.” Grayson kissed Juliana’s temple and then gave Eliza a quick hug. “Glad you're back home.”

“Thanks,” she mumbled. She waited until Grayson moved out of earshot. “Juliana, I'm sorry—”

“You're pregnant.”

“What?” Eliza turned to face the mirror behind the diner's counter. Damn. Her boobs were out of control. By her estimate, she was almost eight weeks, so it made sense, but still. They could slow the hell down long enough for her to let the father know.

“You are. I can tell.” She motioned to her dress.

Eliza crossed her arms. “Maybe I’ve overeaten.”

“You just had a stomach virus.” Her eyes widened. “That was morning sickness, wasn’t it?”

“What's going on?” Dewey's hand planted on the small of her back.

Crap. She wasn’t ready to tell himrightthen. “Nothing.”

“Do you feel bad all day or just in the morning?”

Why couldn’t her sister keep her mouth closed?

Dewey kissed her temple. “Are you feeling bad again? Do you want some water? Crackers?”

“I feel fine,” she muttered. She patted his shoulder. “That popcorn helped. A lot.”

He smirked. “Do you need something to eat or drink, Juliana? You look a little flushed.”

“I'm just so excited!” She threw her arms around Eliza's neck and rocked side-to-side. “A baby! I bet he or she will be just as adorable as Carrie.”

“Baby?” But he wasn't looking at Eliza. He pointed at Juliana with a lopsided smile. “You're pregnant? Congrats!”

“What?” Their dad stood to the side, his eyes taking in Juliana's body in one sweep. He turned around. “Grayson Moore! I expected you to take my threat seriously. You and Juliana can just take our spot in front of the minister tomorrow if she’s pregnant.”

“Pregnant?” Grayson’s cell phone dropped from his hand to the table, bouncing. His eyes locked on Juliana, the entire Daylight Diner silenced by the announcement. “You're pregnant?”

Carrie popped up in the middle, her eyes full of excitement. “I get a cousin! I've always wanted one. I'll take a little girl. Boys are smelly.”

Eliza put a hand to her temple as the diner erupted into a million questions and well wishes for her sister, who stood there, shocked.

“A cousin?” Becky walked up and looked at Juliana. Then she took a long hard look at Eliza. “Carrie, I don’t think Juliana’s the one that’s having the baby.”

Carrie’s eyes grew round. “You’re having the baby, Aunt Becky?”

Hudson paused mid-step through the front door of the diner. He held two bags of ice in each hand, his mouth open but no sound emerging. Poor guy. He’d gone out for ice and come back an expectant dad.

Becky winced. “Shit. Hudson—”

“Rebecca!” Hugh said as Eliza covered Carrie’s ears.
