For once, she’d let someone else deal with the problem. She was tired of all the drama that came along with Jasper and the fallout.

He hung up and handed her back the phone. She reached to take it, but he snagged her wrist, dragging her across the short distance of the sofa and into his lap. He handled her as if her six-foot frame didn’t weigh as much as it did.

Trevor enjoyed being in control, but with her, he tried to take a backseat. Like when they kissed, he would push the pace of their kiss along and then stop. Why wouldn’t he take her to bed already and force her not to overthink the decision?

She straddled his lap, holding onto his shoulders. “I don’t need you to coddle me over this. I don’t want to sing with Jasper again. Ever.”

The corner of Trevor’s lips rose in his typical smirk. “I’m not coddling you.” He cupped her cheek and drew her face close to his. “I’m kissing you.”

And he did. Hard. Intense. His other kisses were tame compared to this one. She wanted more.

With her bed only a few feet away, her body fought against her brain.

Could she do that? Sleep with him and walk away? She’d leave shortly after the wedding. He’d fly back to California.

She shifted on his lap, breathing in the moan that escaped from his throat. The man wanted her.

She’d never felt more alive. Real.

His phone chimed. He held onto her hips and sat her down on his lap. “As much as I want to get lost in you for the afternoon, we need to figure out the contract thing. You leave for New York tomorrow morning if you’re obligated to this.”

She kissed his neck. The muscles along his shoulders twitched under her fingertips. Jasper had made her feel undesirable for such a long time. She’d accepted it as the norm. But Trevor wanted her.

“I’m going to tell you two things.” He patted her thigh, and she sat back. He scanned his cell phone another moment before saying, “First, this will be a beast of a contract to fight and the damage to your career will be just as harmful. But I will take this all the way if you want me to.”

She narrowed her eyes. “What’s the second thing?”

“I think you should go and sing regardless.”

“But—”

“No. Hear me out. Most of the cronies in Broadway have one perspective of this situation. Jasper’s side. He’s like gold to them. You need to remind them why you’re deserving of that role inAladdin. Why you deserve every role you want. You’re an amazing singer, Sam.” He brought the palm of her hand to his lips, watching her with an incredible amount sincerity. “Actress. Person. You need to show them that you’re better than this. You’re better than Jasper.”

No one had complimented her that way in a long, long time.

“Let me go with you.”

Would he fly to New York for her? But wasn’t that against his rules? “I thought you didn’t want another client.”

“Last time I checked, Grayson didn’t straddle me and make me want to toss him on the bed and beg him for more.”

She laughed. “That was one bad mental picture.”

“Let me go as your date. Boyfriend. Whatever title you want to put on it, but I’ll go and be your support. Sing the hell out of the song. Stay for ten minutes, only talk to the directors or producers you want to, then we’ll leave.”

“You’d do that for me?”

He brought her head back down. “Absolutely.” His lips were soft and gentle over hers. If she didn’t know his reluctance to be in a relationship, she’d read more into the emotion behind his words. Actions. Because right then he made her feel cherished and supported. Neither of which helped her heart stay out of the equation.

She was falling for him, fast. Rebound or not, he made her happy.

She wouldn’t analyze it. Not while his hands slid up her thighs and gripped her hips. She’d stay present in her moment with Trevor and deal with the fallout of her emotions later.

“Okay. I’ll go if you go.”

“It seems that I have pretty good negotiating skills as well.”

She laughed. “I’d hate to see what happens when we both want opposite things.”
