“I have every intention of making a move, several actually, and I don’t care where I am. Now, sit and chit-chat with your future husband while I try to get Sam to kiss me again.”
“You’re hopeless.” Addie sat down and crossed her arms.
“Maybe.” He closed her door and took a deep breath. Control. He needed to be in the right headspace tonight. No matter how much he said it, how much Addie said it, a one-date relationship with Samantha didn’t feel right. He hated the prospect of not seeing her again.
And that put him in a new position he didn’t know how the hell to handle. He’d think about it later. Right then, he had a gorgeous woman waiting on him.
He sat down beside her in the back seat, his hand immediately resting on her bare knee. He hadn’t lied. Touching her would happen the entire date.
The ride there.
The movie.
The ride home. Not one moment would pass without Trevor having his hands on her. Her body was magnetic. He didn’t know where they were headed, and saying it aloud wouldn’t happen, but it made him nervous.
He caressed her leg. Long and lean. A tanned, olive complexion skin tone that would drive all the women back in L.A. crazy with jealousy.
“How far away is the movie theater?” Samantha watched Addie for an answer.
Trevor squeezed her knee, but her focus didn’t break. Ignoring him after the kiss in the hallway was wasted effort.
“About thirty minutes,” Cameron answered. He started the car. “It’s the closest one to us down here.”
Samantha nodded and then stared out her window.
He squeezed her knee a second time. Her hands clasped together in her lap as her attention remained firmly fixed on anything except him.
Trevor slid his hand from her knee to her thigh, enjoying the game more than she’d intended. She wasn’t playing hard-to-get. She never moved away from him or shoved his hand away. Never told him to stop. Nothing.
If it weren’t for the damn seatbelt, he’d drag her across the back seat and into his lap, see how much she could ignore with his lips on hers.
His thumb brushed the edge of her black shorts along the top of her thigh. He pushed her further, slipping his thumb underneath the hem of her shorts.
That made her squirm.
He softly chuckled as she covered his hand with her own. After a wary glance tossed Addie’s direction, she mouthed, “What are you doing?”
Trevor grinned and shrugged. He interlaced his hand with hers and let it rest on the space between them. Thankfully, his sister was there to chaperone them. Every inch of those legs deserved his attention.
“Oh, this was the song we used to sing all the time. Sing with me, Trev.” Addie shifted in her seat as Journey’sDon’t Stop Believingcame on the radio. She turned up the volume and started to sing along.
Samantha sang a little too, so he decided to join in. Singing with his little sister as they drove to school in the morning was different than singing in front of a trained Broadway star. But Samantha’s eyes lit up when he joined in. Was he that bad?
Cameron even joined in at certain parts. He pulled into the movie theater as the song ended. “Good timing.”
“Trevor, that was good.” Samantha didn’t release his hand when he opened his door to get out. She pulled him back. “I mean it.”
“Thanks.” He kissed her quickly. “But the sooner we get into the movie theater, the sooner I can put Addie in an uncomfortable situation by trying to make-out with you the entire time.”
“I’m not going to make-out with you in a movie theater.” The overhead light of the Mercedes faded away, but not before he saw the interest in her eyes.
“Then we can stay here in the car and make-out. Whichever you prefer.”
“I want to see the movie. It’s been years since I’ve gone to a movie like a regular person. But what I want to talk to you about is your singing. I want you to sing with me at their wedding.”
Trevor dropped her hand and finished climbing out of the car. That wasn’t happening. Samantha could ask for a dozen other things in the world from him, but singing in public? Hell no. It was already a massive leap for him to play the guitar in front of a crowd.
He waited as Samantha walked around the car. “Trevor, please? The song, whatever song, would sound better as a duet.” She stopped in front of him. After a brief pause, she set her hands on his chest and rose on her toes, bringing their mouths closer in line. “Please?” She tugged him down, nipping at his bottom lip. “At least let’s try it out.” Samantha’s lips pressed against his. “Just once?”
