“You know the guys were just joking around, right?”

“About you and me?” I asked and felt my cheeks warm.

Bones nodded and watched me closely like he was worried I might have taken it the wrong way.

I laughed softly and gave his hand a reassuring squeeze. “I’m not dumb, Bones. I know they weren’t being mean or trying to make me uncomfortable. They’re your friends, and we were all just joking around.” I reached up and cupped his cheek, feeling the slight roughness of his stubble under my palm. “But it’s really sweet of you to check up on me.”

He leaned in, pressing a gentle kiss to my lips. “Maybe you could come with me to make the delivery,” he murmured, wiggling his eyebrows. “And we could make a pit stop on the way.”

I rolled my eyes, though I couldn’t help the laugh that slipped out. “You’re shameless, Bones. As much as I’d love to run off with you, I have a mountain of baking to get through today. You’re a distraction.” I trailed my fingers down his cheek, and a grin tugged at my lips. “A very attractive distraction at that.”

He pressed a kiss to my palm and looked into my eyes with a warmth that made me feel like I was melting. “Maybe tonight we can try to decorate the tree again. No interruptions this time.”

I smiled up at him, and my heart swelled at the idea of just being close to him, even in something as simple as hanging ornaments. “I’m always up for trying.”

Chapter Nineteen

Bones

“How in the hell is the Christmas tree still not decorated?” Wick asked and eyed the bare branches with a grin.

I couldn’t help it. Last night had been the third night in a row that Snow and I had every intention of decking it out with ornaments, and every single time, we ended up tangled on the couch or against the wall, forgetting all about decorations and diving right into each other instead. It was a problem I was more than okay with.

From the kitchen, Snow called out, “We’re going to do it tonight!”

Wick snorted. “I think you need to be more specific about whatitis, ‘cause you’ve been doingitalright.”

I rolled my eyes and tried not to laugh. The guys had figured out real quick that the decorations were suffering because of our… distractions. But I’d take the teasing if it meant another night wrapped up in Snow.

“I’m gonna head to the garage for a bit,” I said and pushed off the couch. I gave Wick a nudge as I walked past. “You coming?”

The oven dinged, and Wick’s grin spread wide. “I’ll be out later. The croissants are done.”

I chuckled and shook my head as I made my way into the kitchen. Snow was just pulling a tray out of the oven, and her face glowed in the warm kitchen light. I stepped behind her and pressed a kiss to her temple as I inhaled the mix of her sweet scent and the smell of fresh croissants.

“I’ll be in the garage if you need me, Sugar.”

She turned and gave me a soft smile with a nod. “Okay.”

I left her there, her eyes still following me with that look that kept me going back for more. I headed out to the garageand flipped on the lights. I stood in front of the garage door and smiled.

Through the garage door, I still had a perfect view of Snow bustling around the kitchen. It was like a picture out of a dream, except now, it was real. I knew the way she tasted, the sound she made when I touched that spot on her neck, and the softness of her skin under my hands. I knew her in every way I’d wanted to for too damn long.

Yeah. That made me happy as hell.

I grabbed a warm snowball cookie off the rack and set it on a napkin. “I’m going to go see what Bones is up to,” I told Bonnie and Nut. Wick was passed out on the couch after eating four croissants.

Nut didn’t even look up from the gingerbread men he was piping. “Think we’re good here for a bit.”

Bonnie smiled and pulled her apron strings tighter. “Want me to start on the peppermint patties next?”

“That would be great.” With both of them here to help, I could finally take a breather—and see Bones. I headed out across the driveway to his garage.

“Back here, Sugar,” he called when I walked through the door.

He was in the back, sitting on the black leather couch.
