He called his wings, then leapt off the building and soared toward me until we were hovering in front of each other.

“I want you to attack me. No mercy.”

“You… what?”

“First we need an illusion to cover up what’s about to happen, though. Too much power flying about won’t go unnoticed otherwise. Especially when it’s not sanctioned by a class or the faculty.”

“We’ll need a ward to keep our magic contained and then a glamour for that.” He rubbed his palms together, then his vibrant-purple magic sparked to life.

In the next moment, a shimmering purple wall that only I could see erupted into being, surrounding us. He flicked his fingers of both hands and then it sparkled—the glamour element that would make it look like we weren’t here and everything was normal to anyone looking to this part of the sky.

“Perfect. Now, hit me with it.” I flew back several feet and as he just floated there eyeing me incredulously, I yelled over, “Come on, Dark Prince, give it to me!”

“Not the way I want to begiving it to you,”he called back with a sly smirk.

“Well, you’ll be dying to fuck me with that huge dick of yours once you see what I’m about to do.”

“Motherfuck, don’t turn me on and get myhuge dickhard when I need to focus my magic, Alena.”

“I can’t help it. It just comes naturally.”

He chuckled. “Oh, little angel, it sure does. You have no idea just how tantalizing you truly are.”

I licked my lips at him seductively and he fell a little, managing to catch himself. “Shit.”

“Wow, it’s that easy, huh? Well, this isn’t gonna be any fun. I wanted to earn it.”

“What’s that? What exactly is the goal here? More sparring?”

“You’re gonna attack me with a shitload of your power and I’m gonna show you what I’m made of.”

“Really? No more holding back?”

“There’s no more time. When we were sparring before, that was me testing to ensure my control was good enough. So that I could risk doing what I’m about to now.”

“What? Why didn’t you just tell me that? Why let me ream you out?”

“Because I wasn’t sure the outcome was going to be favorable. But it was. I know where the line is and I can do it. I’m sure of it now.”

A mixture of relief and hope sparked in his eyes.

He’d really thought that he’d have to go it alone without the mammoth boost of celestial magic at his side, without someone close to him there supporting him. He wouldn’t allow any of us close to that sort of danger unless he was confident that we could handle ourselves. And I was the only one who could be that for him, so I’d ensured that I could bring it, that I could be there for him to stop his father and thereby save him from himself, and spare him for Orpheus.

He flicked his palms down and squared his shoulders. “Ready?” he called over.

I assumed one of the magic-wielding fighting stances that he’d taught me, while hovering in the air. “Like never before.”

It happened then, he let loose a fusillade of purple magical missiles, all headed straight for me.

I blasted them away, one by one, but they kept coming.

Exactly what I’d asked him to do—come at me hard.

I focused and as I continued to blast them away, I also shored up my power, feeling that familiar warmth coiling and spreading through my body.

This time, I didn’t stop it, I didn’t try to shove it down, or go the safe route.

No, this time, I let it out.
