Page 79 of Snowed In

“If you want, I have a guest room above the barn. You can stay until the morning, or until the snow lets up.”

My eyes widened. I could see the headlines now.Two bodies were found along the Adamsborough city line half eaten by cannibals.

“Um…” My hesitation earned me yet another chuckle.

“I promise, you’ll be safe.”

“Isn’t that what all serial killers say?” Shi asked and I stifled a laugh.

“Maggie,” another man hollered down into the ditch. “What’s the plan?”

“I’m going to help my brother get the tow line ready.” He looked at us again with another smirk, and I swear to fucking God his eyes glowed for a half a second. “The offer is there. You might have better luck if you turn around and head back to the freeway. But the roads are icy as hell.”

He didn’t wait for a response as he trudged off behind us and out of the ditch.

“What do you think?” I asked and Shi cracked up.

“I think we both smell like sex and that guy isn’t stupid.”

“I mean staying in his barn, smart ass.”

“I think he seems… weird, but it’s nice that he wants to help, and he obviously could tell we fucked around, so maybe not a bigot?”

“True.”

“And icy roads… we don’t want to end up like this again.”

“I don’t know, it was kind of fun.” He moved to swat my shoulder, and I grabbed his wrist, pulling him into my chest. “I want to make sure we get where we're going in one piece.”

I attempted to lean down and kiss him, but he stopped me.

“Be careful, we don’t know for sure this guy isn’t a bigot.”

“I think you’re right, though. Especially with your I-just-got-fucked hair, he had to know.” I loved how easy it was to make him blush. I ran my thumb over his cheek, indulging in the heat of his skin. “Let’s see what happens. Let’s get the car out of this ditch, and if he gives us cannibal vibes, we get the fuck out of here.”

“And if he seems chill?”

“Looks like I’m getting a blow job on a hay bale.”

“Fuck you,” he protested, but he followed it with a deep kiss.

I was lost in the taste of him again and didn’t hear Magnus approach until he cleared his throat.

“You two need a minute or…”

Shi practically fell on his ass as he pushed away from me.

“It’s okay,” Magnus rubbed the back of his neck. “No need to be worried. My boyfriend is waiting for me back at the house.”

“Boyfriend,” I repeated, and he nodded.

“So, if we could hurry… Henrik told him I found two stranded travelers, he’s probably already got the kettle on for tea, and I’ll never hear the end of it if we take too long and it gets cold.”

Shi and I shared a private look. I wasn’t sure what he wanted or if he thought this guy was buttering us up so he could steal our skin, but our options were pretty slim. “Tea sounds good to me.”

Turned out Magnus and his brother Henrik were really cool guys. Magnus’s boyfriend too. He had indeed made us tea, and the room above the barn turned out to be a heated and super nice guest house.

Shi pulled back the covers on the bed and slid underneath the sheets, immediately hiding his frozen toes between my thighs. I hissed as he snuggled in next to me.
