Snake’s apologetic gaze met hers briefly before he addressed me. “It’s my fault, man, I’m fuckin’ sorry.”

I didn’t want Allie to hear what might be coming next, so I held up my hand, warning Snake to wait before he said anything else. “Babe.” I turned to her. She was pale and her bottom lip was quivering. “Go inside, okay?”

She started to shake her head. “No. He’s my son. I want to−”

I sighed heavily. “Let me find out what happened first, and then I’ll come inside and fill you in.”

“No,” she said stubbornly. She glanced at Snake, her gaze drifting past him to where the others were standing and listening. I knew she was looking for answers, and so was I.

The front door opened and Audra stepped out onto the porch. She exchanged a look with Hawk before coming our way.

“Come on, honey.” She wound her arms around one of Allie’s and gently pulled her away from me. “Come inside with me and Robin and let our men deal with this. You’ll have Sam back in your arms in no time.”

Allie looked at me with desperation in her eyes. “Rock−”

“We’ll find him, babe. Go with Audra.”

I could tell that Allie didn’t want to leave, yet she allowed Audra to lead her to the front door and inside the house. Once the door was closed I swung my gaze to Snake. “What the fuck happened?”

It was Hawk who spoke. “Boomer has Sam.”

“What?” I snarled.

“Snake was on his way to the club when Robin called to say that two men had broken in the front door and taken him.”

“I’m sorry, man.”

I met Snake’s eyes. “How is that your fault, brother? You’d probably be dead now if you’d been here.” Snake shrugged, as if that didn’t matter.

“Seems Boomer has a grudge against you in particular.”

I had to agree with Hawk’s comment. “We sure it’s Boomer?”

“Robin described him,” said Big John. “Roughed her up a little to scare her.”

The fucking coward! “She and the kids okay?” My question was for Snake.

Snake nodded. “He’s gonna die for touching her.”

“Get in line, brother.”

“Boomer left you a message.” I looked at Clay expectantly and waited for him to continue. “Said if you wanted to ever see your son again that you’d meet him out at the old camp on the edge of Turner Pond Road.”

I didn’t hesitate to jump back onto my bike, my only thought getting Sam back. And then I’d kill the fucker who’d taken him.

“Brother.” The harshness of Hawk’s tone caused me to pause from starting my bike. “He wants you to bring Allie.”

A burst of anger shook me to the core. “Fuck that!” I scowled. There was no way I was putting Allie in any kind of danger.

“Said he’d give Sam to her and let them go, but you would have to stay behind.”

I stared at Hawk, the realization of what this request meant slowly sinking in. I didn’t give a shit. “So he wants to kill me. Won’t be the first fucker who’s tried.”

“You’re not going in alone,” Hawk said firmly. “And we do this the smart way.” I crossed my arms, grinding my teeth, anxious to be gone. “You do as Boomer says if it gets you back your son. The camp road is assessable by truck, so Allie will follow you in.”

I stiffened angrily at that. “You think he’s just going to let them go?” I snarled.

“Maybe not, but we’ll be ready just in case. There’s room under the truck for Clay to hitch a ride in without being seen. The rest of us won’t be far behind. The first sound of gunfire, and we’ll be there.”
