“Harps, can we have a chat first?”

“Oh, that all sounds kind of boring…” She pouted and sashayed up to him, then did a spidey finger dance up the buttons of his shirt.

“I really need to get something off my chest first, babe. About Dina.”

Harper’s fingers froze. Noah covered her big hand with his and, holding it, laced his fingers through hers. “I could tell it was still bothering you last night. So I went to sort it out with Wyatt this morning.”

“Wyatt! What’s Wyatt got to do with it?” Harper felt completely bewildered.

“It’s Wyatt’s baby.”

“Wyatt’s!”

“Dina is having a baby with Wyatt.”

“Dina and Wyatt,” she parroted.

“Yep, Dina and Wyatt.” Noah sighed. “One night about five months ago I went to see Wyatt on his boat, and he was… er… getting pretty cozy, shall we say, with Dina.”

“Oh.” Things started to slot into place. “That’s around the time he stopped bothering me,” Harper realized.

“Yeah, well, since then they’ve been a serious item, I found out today. That night she told me the baby was Wyatt’s, and although she had feelings for him, she didn’t know whether he’d be a good enough dad. She made me promise to keep it secret because at that stage she hadn’t even told him.”

“And that’s when I turned up,” Harper said.

“Yeah, and when you asked why she was there, honestly, Harps, maybe I could have made up some bullshit story, but I’m no good at that. The only thing I could have told you was thetruth. And I’d just promised Dina, hand on heart, that I wouldn’t tell a soul. I can see how that would have looked to you. But then you did that whole spiel about only wanting to be friends and I was… so gutted I had no words left in me.”

“I’m so sorry, Noah. It’s just, I knew you were holding something back, and I guess, with the way my dad was, always having affairs behind mom’s back, I went straight to reading the worst into it. And then rejected you before you could reject me.”

“And, stupid dumb selkie that I am, I couldn’t see through that, couldn’t even reassure you that I care about you.”

“I didn’t give you much chance.”

He looked into her eyes seriously. “No more misunderstandings. We talk things out from now on, okay?”

“Yep, total honesty from here on, I promise. Now, come and sit down and tell me, what’s going to happen with Wyatt and Dina… and the baby?”

She listened, holding his hands, while Noah explained what had transpired that morning.

“I’m going to back off and let Wyatt sort himself out from here,” Noah finished with a determined jut to his jaw. “I’ve realized I’ve been enabling him to take zero responsibility for his actions. I’ve kept bailing him out and rescuing him. Now it’s up to him and Dina to act like the grown adults they are.”

“You won’t be tempted to get involved when there’s a tiny wee selkie in a pram,UncleNoah?”

His face went kind of goofy soft and she loved that. “Of course, I’ll support them, babysit from time to time.”

It made Harper’s heart melt, thinking of how great he’d be with kids. “Like heck, you’ll be the most adoring uncle ever.”

Noah glanced at her from under ruffled brows. “Yeah, maybe. Though there’s someone else I want to adore right now.”

And then he took her hand to his lips and kissed her fingers, one at a time.

It was so romantic, but then he slid her thumb into his mouth and sucked, and Harper’s pussy obligingly clenched.

Noah glanced up at her out of hooded dark eyes. “So, now what?”

Harper snickered. “We’re supposed to be practicing our lines.”

“I can think of something else I’d like to practice.” He suckled her forefinger into his mouth and heat flooded her panties. She attempted a weak protest, more to string out the pleasure than anything. “You’ve got to try on the Santa pants first.”
