“Maybe,” I admit.

“We can have one whenever you want,” she says.

“What about at the bar? We can close and make it a private event. It has enough space to host the people we would want there. And you can decorate however you like.”

“That’s fine by me. But you don’t have to close just for that. If we can have maybe just a section or one side of the bar, that’ll be fine. I’ll get Anna to help, and maybe Leah,” she says.

“Leah?” I ask, not sure who she means.

“Oh. I’ve become friends with Dr. Leah Barnette,” she tells me.

“I didn’t realize.”

“Is that a problem?” she asks.

“No, not at all. She’s a good person.”

“Yeah, she is. She’s given me some good advice about you,” she says as she winks and gets down off the desk.

“Oh really?” I ask, following her in the direction of our bathroom.

“I’d love to know who she has her eye on. She told me it was complicated, and she’d tell me sometime. But she was there for me to lean on, and I’d love to see her get her man too,” she says light-heartedly.

“I honestly don’t know who it could be, but she works with first responders a lot, so it may be one of them,” I tell her.

“That makes sense. When the firemen/paramedics came to take me to the hospital, she seemed to know them pretty well,” she says with a shrug.

“What firemen?” I ask, knowing a few of them and their playboy ways.

She pats my chest. “Down, boy. These men saw me at my literal worst after throwing up so much I was barely lucid. Nothing to see there. Besides, you are the man who managed to capture all my attention, and my heart.”

“I don’t think you realize what a beautiful woman you are. But same for me, sunshine. All that I am, belongs to you.”

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

Scarlett

“I’m going to be starving by the time this test is over,” I tell Zander after the nurse gives me the glucose drink and watches me drink it in the allotted minute. She smiles at me, then her gaze bounces to him and she blushes. After she stares at Zander a few seconds longer, she gets my initial fasting blood draw.

Me too, sis. Me too. This man of mine would make any woman blush. He’s ruggedly handsome with his dark hair and eyes. There’s an air of mystery about him too. At times, I think I should pinch myself when we’re together to make sure I’m not dreaming.

“We’ll draw your blood an hour from now, and then again at the two-hour mark. Once we do the two-hour draw, you’ll be done and you can go eat lunch,” she says kindly.

“Thank goodness. I’ll be ready,” I tell her and then laugh.

“When will we get the results of this test?” Zander asks.

“Dr. Ray’s office should call you next week with them,” the nurse says. “You’re free to walk around but be sure to be backhere in exactly one hour for the first draw,” she says, smiling in my direction again.

We make our way down the hall until we find a waiting room with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the most beautiful view in the distance. It’s not occupied by anyone else, so we take a seat. He looks so imposing in this sterile, small waiting room. I clear my throat in order to push down the desire blooming through me. I’m not sure if my desire for this man is amplified by being pregnant with his child or if it’s simply him, but regardless, Zander Bailey has me in a chokehold. I can’t get enough of him. I’m not sure if that should scare me or not given everything we’ve been through, but it doesn’t.

He glances at me with a raised brow. “Is something wrong?”

“Nope. I was just thinking about being hungry, except this time I’m not talking about food,” I admit with a wink.

“Mmm. I like the sound of that,” he says while sliding back in his seat with his muscular thighs spread in invitation. My mouth goes dry as I think about sitting on his lap and straddling him, one leg on each side.

“Don’t tempt me, Zander. Me and this sex drive of mine from all these hormones doesn’t care where we are. I’ll find somewhere and have my way with you,” I tell him and then pull my bottom lip between my teeth. I’m not joking. This desire for him is unmatched to anything I’ve ever experienced before.
