“You, too,” John said. He waved to Sean and left.

Dakota pulled out his wallet to pay. Sean held up his hand. “John took care of it. It pays to be a celebrity.”

“I guess so. I’ll see you later.”

After stopping by the store for some bottles of water and tea, as well as a few grocery items, Dakota headed home. The comfortable familiarness of the home he grew up in welcomed him. He headed for his old bedroom, which he had converted into an office, and worked on his next project. The human world disappeared as he dove into the wolves’ lives. He wrote out his first chapter and made a note of the exact photos he would need for each passage.

He was startled when his phone buzzed and smiled when he saw it was from Sadie.

Good afternoon, handsome. Miss you.

A feeling of warmth rushed through him.

Miss you, too. Are you having a good day?

She texted immediately back.Yes. It’ll be even better if you come over for dinner.Tres Abuelitasis cooking tonight and delivers.

He knew that she was developing feelings for him and that it might be better for the both of them if he stayed away. However, his willpower wasn’t that strong.I’ll be glad to come. What time?

Six.

His fingers moved quickly over the keyboard on his phone.I’ll be there.

Dakota loved the idea of spending time with Sadie. She was an incredible woman. There was no way that he could give up his lifestyle for her. He would get bored and restless. Dakota sighed heavily. He didn’t want Sadie to get hurt.

“Maybe I should talk to her tonight and remind her that a long-term relationship just isn’t in the cards. On the other hand, she is a grown woman and already knows my feelings.”

He groaned, feeling conflicted. Should he walk away before either of them developed deeper feelings, or should they enjoy the time they had together and cherish the memories afterward?

Sadie

Sadie was excited to see him. She made sure the house looked great. Three different dresses lay discarded on her bed. She finally decided on a V-necked sweater dress that formed to her body. It came just above her knees. If they were going out somewhere she would have worn her black knee-high, three-inch heeled boots. However, she figured she would look silly wearing them in the house.

Growling at herself for not asking what Dakota wanted to eat earlier, she sent him a link to the online menu and asked what he wanted.

You choose. I’ll eat anything that doesn’t involve tripe or cow tongue.

Sadie grinned because she knew these were ingredients used in some traditional Mexican dishes. She wasn’t a fan of those particular items, either. “I think the triple meat fajitas is a good choice,” she said, and made the order online.

The food delivery service had her payment method on file. She was certain that all of the drivers knew her well.

Her heart raced when the doorbell rang and Dakota’s face showed up on her ring camera. She smoothed her dress and ran her fingers through her hair.

She threw open the door before his finger was off the button. He looked shocked.

Sadie shrugged. “I heard your truck pull into my driveway.”

He laughed and pulled her into a hug. “I think you were waiting on me.”

“Maybe. I’ll never tell.” She stepped aside and he walked into the kitchen. Just as she was about to shut the door, Anna, her usual delivery driver pulled up.

“Hello, Sadie. You know you are my best customer?”

“What can I say. I’m not a fan of cooking, but I am a fan of eating. I left you a tip on the credit card.”

“I appreciate it.” Anna handed her the bag of food and left.
