Page 53 of Repossess My Heart

A babysitter.

My eyes roam over Nine, my heart sinking when I take in the sheer amount of damage the hounds did to him. He’s hurt. My gut clenches at the sight of it. Kicking myself for having not noticed. Letting him piggyback me all this way. He reaches onto his sides tightening his vest, a short puff of breath leaves him.

“I can help you though, at least take the drone.”

“No.”

“Nine-“

“Look at me, every scrape here, every nip and bite I took in your pod was because I wasn’t focused. You unfocused the fuck out of me. I can’t kill him if I’m worried about not letting him kill you. That’s what he’s going to do the second he realizes you’re with me. You’re staying.”

“Please-“ I’m cut off when his fingers brush over my lips. The press of his mechanical hand finds my clit through my pants, making me gasp.

“Look sweetling if he even so much as breathes in the same air as you, I’m going to lose my fucking mind.” He laughs softly, the chill of it isn’t dampened a bit by the low volume of his voice, his blue eyes are untethered, “I’m about a half step away from shedding what little reasoning I have left and that just won’t be productive. Be my good girl and wait. When I come back, I’ll make it up to you.”

“Assuming you aren’t dead.” I breathe out, letting my eyes flutter as he rubs my clit through my pants.

“No way I’d let myself die before I got to taste that cunt of yours again.”

My answering moan is halted in my throat as he abruptly pulls away from me, leaving me wanting as he points at his drone. “You let her leave this rooftop and I will dismantle you.”

He gives me a final wink before jumping backwards, dropping down somewhere I can’t see. My legs carry me forward without thinking, only to slam into the egg-shaped drone, “You must-“

My fists curl at my sides and heat builds in my chest. I can feel it already flushing my skin. “I spent too many years being controlled by metal. If you think-“

“There is a hidden underground access to the meeting location.”

I halt, clearing my throat as I shove my hair from my face, “Okay… why are you telling me that?”

“While you were asleep, master allowed me to pair with your genetic code. You thought about finding a way in, that is the most direct route that will not cross paths with Master Nine.”

“He made me a primary user…”

“The probability of Master Nine’s survival is not favorable in his current state.”

I nod, squaring my chin. “Take me to him. Keep him alive… no matter the cost.”

“If you obstruct his primary goal in obtaining the tech in Ten’s wrist, he will likely kill you.”

The corner of my mouth turns up,just a bit, “That’s why I’m here, isn’t it?”

Nine

Something inside me is buzzing, like a gnat that flew too close to a sign. I’m burning in the most annoying yet oddly satisfying way. Years of discipline, of work, blood and sweat… it should be the idea of getting my hands on this illusive fucker chubbing my cock, but it’s her. It’s her smell, her worthless eyes and the way she breathes. It’s all I can think about. Even now.

Is she behaving?

Is she comfortable?

Scared?

Is she rooting for me?

The mental image of Reverie in one of those little cheer outfits they dress the Migs in for sparing events has my shit at half mass as I slink around the edge of the hall. Neither Ten nor his little contact struck me as the type to meet up at a well-known hangout for junkies, but it’s as good a place as any. From all my years as a surgical assassin, I’ve learned the best place for murder is any place at all. Granted, there’s adequate room to slice and dice. I know it the second he realizes I’m here. It’s an electricity that fills the damp molded walls of the large room I’m in. No cerebral link needed, no pings to the count of ten.

“So, you’ve finally decided to track me in earnest.” He booms, not bothering to look at me as I leap over the rusted railing of the upper floor, landing just behind him.

You should take me seriously.
