Page 61 of Repossess My Heart

My eyes widen at the sound that cones from Nine, “Six, this has nothing to do with you, get topside.”

“Ah, that sounds fucking lame. Also, don’t have the clearance for that, so.”

“I have something that can help you. But I’m warning you now, the second you show your face, I’ll kill you along with the rest.” Nine huffs as he quickens his pace. It’s getting harder and harder to keep up. My feet are going numb from the constant pounding against metal.

“Fuck that, you need help admit it.”Sixbites back through the drone.

“Final warning, and don’t fuck with my drone again.”

A laugh filters through the drone as it hovers between us, hearing such a human sound coming from the device is about as uncomfortable as you’d imagine, “The way I see it, my bestvery mentally unwellfriend went off grid after he found himself a girl that’s apparently still alive. He pissed off an entire faction of very scary and powerful people. And now that sweet, unwellfriend of mine is climbing up the outside of their clubhouse with nothing but a drone and a girl. Looks like you need help to me, and I want to hear that sexy mouth admit it.”

“It’s all a fucking lie, Six. The Officials aren’t the ones in charge, and neither are the cunts Above. Trust me, I’ve been planning this for years. Get topside before it’s too late.”

“That bitch Anton from the Down then?”

“The very same.”

“Fuck… and you’ve known this for how long?” There’s an edge of anger, betrayal in the man’s voice now. The line of communication stops for a long time, so long the next time the drone speaks I’m jolted again by the very human voice, “Nine.”

“For fuck's sake, that information is new. I had my own reasons before I found out. Ones that took place a long time ago.”

“Alright then, baby girl, what’s the plan?”

“Six-“

A loud sigh comes from the drone. “Look, I’m already in. Fuck, the meeting starts in what? Twenty minutes? I’m not getting out. I can help. I want to help take these fuckers down. Assuming that’s the plan.”

Nine stops so suddenly I slam into his back, my heart seizes in my chest as I heave backwards violently, seconds before a very hard mechanical arm bands around my wrist slamming me upright and into his chest. His frigid blues glued to mine when he speaks. “Six, I need your word that you’ll follow the plan. This is important, the most important, so don’t fuck it up. I swear-“

“I’ll be the best boy, promise.”

“I need you to get the meeting postponed.”

“What?” Six and I ask in unison. What little I know of his plan all rides on the meeting taking place. Otherwise, getting in would be impossible.

“That seems like a terrible plan.” Six adds, “But okay, then what?”

For a moment his eyes warm on mine, letting Nathan peer through the icy barrier Nine built around him. “I’ll send the rest to your drone. Don’t let me down.”

“I wouldn’t dream of it, daddy.”

Nine snaps back into place with an exaggerated roll of his eyes and again we’re heading up even quicker this time.

“Nine, you needed that meeting. How are we supposed to get past all the Migs-“

“I took care of most of them already.”

My fists ball as I jerk my wrist free from his, halting him. “Tell me what the plan is, the real one. I can help.”

His chilling laughter fills the space between us and drives more than one of his shiny sharpened blades through my heart, “Michael isn’t half wrong this time. You’re going to help me all right.” More laughter spews from him. Growing more wild and uncontrolled with each bout. Somehow even his eyes grow colder… more unhinged. “I’m almost proud of you.”

“Nine…” His name leaves me in a heavy breath and if it wasn’t for my grip on the railing, I’d lose my footing again.

He doesn’t give me a chance to gather my swirling thoughts before his hand snakes around the back of my neck setting my insides on fire until he twists my long braid around his hand jerking me roughly up the last few steps. We’re so high, nothing more than a short rusted railing between me and an impossibly long fall. When his drone leaves my side to hover before the panel lock my eyes can’t seem to focus on what its thin metal arms are doing as they lower from its shell. My breath is coming in rougher as I’m jerked inside Nine, wrenching my head up, inches from his. “Make a sound and I snap your fucking neck.”

“Why are you acting like this?”

“Like a killer? Poor little Reverie, had you convinced yourself of anything else?”
