She followed his line of sight only to still when she spotted the male.

“Do you see him, he’s the one with the red hair,” Malcolm said.

She nodded, recovering quickly. “I see him. So, you’re fighting him, when?”

“Tomorrow, I’m hoping he offers me a challenge.” He grinned.

She swallowed; she hadn’t expected it to be the same man who’d approached her. She bit her lip in worry. She couldn’t shake this wasn’t going to turn out the way Malcolm wanted it to.

The Last Stand

Malcolm

Seeing the look of worry on Eliza’s face, Malcolm grabbed her hand. “Come.”

She looked at him in confusion before she laughed as he dragged her away. “Where are you taking me this time?”

He offered her a secretive smile, “It’s another secret.”

Malcolm had roamed these lands his entire childhood, seeking out every nook and cranny of the forest and rocks, eager for adventure and to find the creatures his parents read to him about in his books of trolls and fairies. Unfortunately, he’d soonrealized that none of those creatures would dare trespass on werewolf land, but as a child, he’d dreamed.

They walked back down the hill towards the line of the thick woods. He wasn’t sure he’d find his old spot, and as he searched, he soon found himself just enjoying the ability to walk in the peace of the forest with his mate by his side, as the grass crunched beneath their feet and her scent filled his nose.

He couldn’t escape what being with her did to him. The minute he’d seen her walking with the other woman, her leggings clinging to her bottom and legs, he’d been eager to remove them.

“Is this where you were bringing me?” she asked suddenly.

Bringing his attention to the present, he grinned. He released her hand, pointing at the creek. “I figured you’d enjoy a swim,” he said.

She looked from the calm river to him before she shot him with a suspicious look. “You think you're slick.”

He offered her an innocent look. “I have no idea what you think I’m thinking, but I assure you I only wanted to show you this beautiful river and spend some alone time with my beautiful mate.” With a mock, pitiful look, he placed a hand on his chest. “I’m wounded you would accuse me of having perverted expectations.”

She scoffed, grabbing the bottom of her t-shirt, pulling it off, and setting it on the boulder next to the creek. It was followed by her bra, leggings, and panties, and before he could take advantage, she ran past him with a scream and jumped in.

Somewhat shocked, he watched her break the surface. Her eyes sparkled. “What?” she quirked a brow. “Are you not coming in?”

She didn’t have to say it twice; he pulled off his shirt and pants. Within a few minutes, he was swimming toward her. Shereleased a shriek when he grabbed her by the waist and lifted her.

“Malcolm!”

“I love you,” he declared, spinning her before bringing her down to kiss her. A taste he’d never get tired of, he pulled back, offering a wicked smile. “So, you were a wild child as well?”

She laughed, wrapping her arms around his shoulders. “My family’s home was in the country, so I explored the land often; I was an only child. There wasn’t much else to do.” She gave the river surface and the shore a glancing look. “This kind of stuff I missed when I moved to the city.”

He leaned back, letting her rest in his lap. The water was cool, but he didn’t feel it too much—and apparently, neither did Eliza. “What made you move to Veil City?”

She pursed her lips; he loved that she didn’t wear her disguise with him.

“Lanias found me.”

Malcolm tensed slightly at the name of that familiar witch. “She hunted me down. She’d been trying to gather all the dub witches and offer them a place where they didn’t have to live in fear. I had just broken up with my dick of an ex and needed something different.” She smiled, shrugging. “So, I took her offer and moved.”

“While I would hate to thank Madame Lanias for anything,” he groused. He leaned forward and brushed his lips across her forehead. “I have to thank her for bringing you closer to me.”

She didn’t let him retreat by taking his lips with hers; he almost groaned when she reached down, “Now, where do you think you’re going?”

He growled against her lips as she spread herself before sinking into him.
