Oh, no. I’ve messed up. Terribly. He’s going to realize I’m bluffing and rub my face in my embarrassment just to prove to me that he’s on top. That he’s better off.
“Honey?Thereyou are. I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”
I whip my head around so fast I think I might have pulled a damn muscle as I turn toward the direction of the voice.
It takes me a second, but I eventually process what I’m seeing. That suit. The golden curls... The guy from the restroom? I’d been too occupied then, on my phone, to pay much attention to him but...
Hot damn, who the hell is he? Did I somehow manifest him out of thin air?
Why would he chooseHoneyout of everything?
Unless he’s talking to Judas. But why is he looking straight atme?
“Uh . . . h-hi?”
Seriously, who are you?
He has the audacity to pout at me.
“Really, are you still shy when I call youHoneyin public? You’re hurting my feelings, babe.” He sulks as he saunters up to me.
Uh. What the hell is this?
Before I can process what’s happening, he pulls me into a hug. His cologne hits my nostrils—fresh and clean, with a touch of something woody and citrusy. It’s the kind of scent that makes you want to breathe in deeply and never let go.
The warmth from his body spreads through me, and much to my horror, I completely relax in his arms.
“Play along. I’m here to be your knight in shining armor,” a voice as smooth as butter, whispers into my ear.
Knight in shining . . . ?
I recall the voicemail I left Alex in the restroom. That has to be it, right?
I’m moved almost to tears for a moment, that Alex didn’t just hear my voicemail but sent someone to come save me. What a coincidence that a guy I randomly see in a fucking restroom at a restaurant is somehow connected with Alex. Perhaps his voicemail greeting isn’t a lie. He certainly is Alex the fucking Great. But why was Alex gatekeeping this devilish and downright strikingly handsome gentleman from me?
“You know me...Sunshine,” I chuckle somewhat awkwardly, still dumbfounded as he settles his arms around my waist. Sunshine is the first thing that comes to mind, seeing he’spractically glowing with the way the fabric of his suit shimmers in the restaurant’s lighting, reflecting on his blond curls and highlighting his piercing blue eyes. I figure, if the shoe fits...
“Since when do you do pet names, Z?” Judas butts in. “And...” He runs his eyes up and down the man and leans towards me. “I think he’s a bit old for you.”
God, I fucking hate this man.
I narrow my eyes at him. “People change. I think you’d know that best, right? Besides, I think I prefer my men more mature now. You know, someone who knows how to handle things, who can deal with me without running at the first sign of trouble or trying to sabotage my business.”
His jawline twitches, and the man cuts him off before he can respond.
“It’s nice to meet you, but I’m on a time crunch so I’ll have to whisk my boyfriend away. I hope you don’t mind?”
Judas’s eyes dart from me to golden curls before huffing. “Yeah, sure. It was nice catching up.”
For who?
I smile brightly. “See you around then.”
Never!
Taking the man’s hand, I allowMr. Knight in Shining Armorto lead me away from the snake piloting a human suit. It’s no surprise when I practically feel Judas’s eyes burning a hole in the back of my shirt, but I resist the urge to turn and flip him off. Instead, my attention locks onto the strong arm wrapped around my waist.
Maybe it’s been too long since I was intimate with someone, because how else can I explain the growing warmth pooling between my legs? I should date more.
