“It does?” I breathe.
I want him.Now.
“It smells fucking delicious.”
My stomach flips and arousal pulses through my core. “Does it?”
He turns to me fully as we stand at the foot of the bed. “You have no idea, baby. I want to taste that sweetness, not just breathe it in.”
His scent darkens, growing spicier until it’s all I can sense.
“I…”
“Baby,” Hunter murmurs. “Come here.”
My panties are soaked. I want this, I want him to touch me?—
But out of my peripheral, I notice something.
The bedroom door is closed.
Which means Hunter did it.
Which means he…
I dart for the door and fling it open.
Why would he shut the door? my inner voice screams. What was he planning on doing?—
“April?” Hunter’s face is etched with concern, his golden eyes wide. “What’s wrong?”
“Why did you shut the door?” I gasp, backing out into the hallway. My back hits the wall and I stare at him, frozen.
I can’t breathe. He was going to lock me in there?—
Hunter looks dumbfounded. “Why did I shut the door?”
I nod. “Why would you do that?”
He stares at me incredulously, raising his hands in surrender. “I swear to god, April, I didn’t mean to scare you?—”
But my panic doesn’t subside. Painful adrenaline races through my limbs and everything hurts.
I do my best to recall Sandy’s questions.
Which doors are around you? Can you open them all? Are you locked in any rooms?
I can open all the doors in my house. I am not locked in any rooms.
Hunter didn’t mean to frighten me.
Hunter is nothim.
I take in a strained breath as reality slowly creeps back in.
I’m in my house. No one can lock me inside my home. I have access to every door.
Hunter stays in my room and makes eye contact with me. “April, focus on your breathing. This will pass.”
