“No—no,youtalked about this.” I look over at Liam, who meets my gaze. “Wenever agreed to this. What thefuck?”
“You just said she smells good,” Donovan mutters. “You threatened to punch me with your boner.”
“I don’thavea boner, asshole. It was a metaphorical boner.”
“I think there’s a better use of metaphors,” Liam says, and I glare at him.
“You’re okay with this?” I spit, irritated. “Donovan made this decision without us, and you’re just fine with it?”
It’s not that I don’t trust Donovan. I do. But the idea of someone new coming in when we haven’t had an Omega in years is equally terrifying and exhilarating.
But it should have been our choice, not just his.
“It would have been better if you had told us first,” Liam says gently, his green eyes. “I think that’s what Hunter is saying.”
“Nothing is set in stone,” Donovan huffs. “Like I said, if you had beenlistening,” he pauses to give me a pointed look, “we’re meeting her later this week. I wouldn’t have made this decision unless I thought it was best for us.”
I scowl. “Yeah, but some of your decisions are fucking bullshit.”
A low growl emanates from Donovan’s throat, and I should know better than to challenge him, but I feelbetrayed.
“Hunter,” Liam snaps. “We’re just meeting her. It will be fine.”
I will forever be grateful to Liam for playing peacekeeper and being logical, but sometimes it’s too much.
Donovan makes stupid decisions because he’s arrogant, but Liam keeps both of us in check.
They’re my best friends and packmates for a reason.
That doesn’t mean I can’t get annoyed, though.
“What’s she like?” I ask quietly.
“April?” Donovan asks, and my inner Alpha stirs.
April.
Even her name is perfect.
Springtime, flowers, and sunshine.
Mine.
“She’s intelligent and carries herself well,” Donovan says. “And she didn’t give two shits about who I was.”
I catch Liam smiling. “Really? She didn’t fawn all over you?” he asks, amused. “How did your poor ego handle that?”
Donovan’s eyes narrow. “Just fine. It was…refreshing.”
I snort. If I didn’t adore her before, I do now.
I would pay millions to see someone knock him down a few pegs.
“Refreshing, huh?” I smirk. “You mean she didn’t faint at the Axton name? Sheisperfect for us.”
Donovan scowls. “Do you always have to be a dick?”
I shrug. “Yup.”
