CHAPTER FOURTEEN
CLOVER
“What did you just say?” I’d heard damn well what he said, but I needed him to repeat it.
“You heard me. I need you to run because I need to chase. I need to chase you through this cemetery. When I catch you, I’m going to fuck you, and I’m not going to be nice about it.” Daire met my frantic gaze. His was calm and cool. Too calm. “I’ll give you a head start. One minute.”
I gaped at him. Had he lost his mind? “Are you serious? Daire, it’s like four in the morning. We should go home.”
“Thirty seconds. If I were you, I’d stop wasting time.” He nodded to the cemetery beyond my window.
He really had lost his mind. My hand went to the door handle. I was afraid to run and have him chase me down. Yet I was also afraid of what might happen if I didn’t.
Something in his eyes propelled me out of the car and into what remained of the night. I slammed my door shut and took off running into the cemetery. The night had thinned enough that I could see my way through, although it was still dark enough to be cloaked in shadow.
I’d always known that Daire was the most unhinged of the three Angels. Perhaps more than I’d realized. I understood that he was dealing with a lot of emotion right now. Feelings that maybe he didn’t know how to process. If there hadn’t been amanic glint in the depths of his eyes, I’d have tried to talk him out of this. Sticking around hadn’t been an option.
Weaving between headstones, I ran as fast as my legs would carry me. A few times I dared to glance back over my shoulder. I saw nothing. He was out there. I felt him hunting me.
At one point I hid behind a large tree, chest heaving as I struggled to catch my breath. I peeked around the tree, seeking any sign of Daire. A shadow moved near a headstone. Was that him?
I didn’t stick around to find out. Shoving away from the tree, I took off again. My heart pounded in my ears, making it tough to hear anyone coming. There was a crack to my left like the crunch of a fallen tree limb. The cemetery wasn’t heavy with trees, although there were enough to provide momentary coverage.
Ducking in behind a large headstone, I crouched down, sucking in deep breaths. Silence surrounded me. Wherever Daire was, he was stealthy.
The cemetery was huge. I’d run in several directions in an effort to throw him off. I glanced down at the ankle bracelet I wore. Could he use it to find my exact location? I had no idea. Damn.
The look in his eyes had been wild. Manic. He wanted the hunt. I doubted he’d try to track me. What fun would that be?
I wondered how long it had been since I left the car. It felt like a good twenty minutes. Afraid to stay in the same place for too long, I peered over the top of the headstone. Seeing nothing, I started to run again.
I moved swiftly when Daire stepped out from behind a tree. He put himself right in my path. I made a split-second decision to veer away before I crashed into him. Daire was faster. He turned to chase me, catching up fast.
He tackled me to the ground, falling on top of me. I barely got my hands up in time to keep my face from hitting the grass. Grabbing my arm, Daire rolled me over so I was on my back, staring up into his face.
“Caught you,” he murmured, rubbing a thumb along my bottom lip. “Now I’m going to fuck you until you’re screaming my name.”
He jerked my leggings down, almost tearing them in his haste. My underwear didn’t survive his aggression. Wrapping one hand around my throat, Daire held me trapped while he shoved his pants down.
Nudging my legs apart with a knee, he roughly thrust inside me. The sudden hard entry made me gasp. A tingle raced through my body as excitement gripped me.
A storm of emotion held Daire in a trance. He watched my face as he fucked me with fast, furious thrusts. Several days’ worth of withheld feelings exploded free in seconds. I’d been holding back too, trying to keep everything inside. Seeing Daire let it all out invited me to do the same.
I held tight to him, my fingernails digging into his shoulders. He winced when I clawed the bullet wound in one arm, but I didn’t care. He sure didn’t care that he was tearing me wide open with his cock.
Daire’s hand slid from my throat up to fist my hair. Tugging my head to one side, he leaned in and bit me. I yelped as his teeth sank into my flesh. Pain shot down my neck into my back.
My reaction was to raise my hips to take his cock as deep as possible. Every stroke of him inside me was both pain and pleasure. Needing to feel more of him, I pulled at Daire’s shirt until my nails dug into his back.
The softness of his skin was a direct contrast to the hard way he fucked me. I reveled in the way it felt when his flesh splitbeneath my fingernails. Daire groaned as his blood stained my fingertips.
“You want to hurt me, Angel?” He pulled back to look me in the eyes. “Make me bleed. Make me feel what you feel.”
Even the shadows surrounding us couldn’t hide the desperate need in Daire’s wicked gaze. His need to purge everything he’d been holding inside was palpable. When he pressed his mouth to mine, I bit onto his bottom lip until I tasted the coppery flavor of blood.
Daire responded by pulling my hair tight enough to make tears spring into my eyes. Or maybe that was the worry and despair I’d been harboring the past few days. We were both a mess. It came out in our actions. In the ways we hurt one another.
The taste of Daire’s blood in my mouth drove me as I nipped his tongue. That wasn’t enough for me. Grabbing his hair, I pulled his head down so I could bite the side of his neck.
