I sigh, rubbing my palms into my eyelids. “My ex.”
“What about him?”
“He. . .” Ugh. ”He texted me. He texted a few times and even showed up at the coffee shop when I worked there.” I turn to face him and shove my phone in Mav’s direction showing him the thread. His grip tightens around the device as he stares at the screen.
“Are you going to text him back?”
“What if I just ignore him and pretend he doesn’t exist anymore?” I sigh.
“Do you think that would actually happen or will there always be a what if?”
“There’s no ‘what if,’ Mav. I’m done with him, but I don’t know, I guess I’m just a little curious why after months he has texted me to ask if we can talk.”
“Well, there’s your answer.” He smiles down at me.
“Are you mad?”
“That you need closure, no. That the asshole texted you, yes. But I can’t do anything about it. I know you’ll handle it and Itrust you to do so.” He hands my phone back, pulling me into him. I quickly message back to get it over with.

What do you want?
Andrew
I miss you. I fucked up Ko, forgive me.
Those words that I thought I wanted to hear that first few weeks on Darcy’s couch are now making my skin crawl. I don’t need or want his attention. The only person I need is encouraging me to get the closure that never came when it should have.
“What does he want?”
“‘I miss you. I fucked up Ko, forgive me.’ That’s crap, he just couldn’t get Lyla back and now he’s trying me again.”
“He cheated?” Mav’s grip on the counter is starting to turn his knuckles white.
“Can neither confirm or deny, but I am leaning towards yes.”
“Well, he didn’t deserve you and he better hope I never run into him in public.”
“That isn’t necessary, my rejection will be a big enough blow to his overinflated ego. I’m going to text him back but then I’m done.”
Me
Well, I’m sorry but the day you ended our relationship I decided I deserved better and I’ve found it. I forgive you but it’s time we both move on.
“Why are men stupid?” I groan.
“Ouch, that hurts.”
“Sorry, Big Guy, it’s nothing against you. You’re good to me.” I look up then boop his nose. His facial expression contorts, I can’t tell if I offended him or if he thinks I’m crazy.
“Did you justboopme, Darlin’?”
All I do in return is give him my biggest grin.
“You’re so odd, Kodi Roscoe.” My phone buzzes again and I glance down.
