She shrugs, letting out a laugh, breathy and light, that is music to my ears. “It’s okay. It’s just funny. I guess I should get used to it. People seeing me with you and your daughter are probably going to make them assume things.”

The doors open and we head to her room first. Opening the door, Kodi steps in first with Bella, but it immediately feels like we are stepping into a hair dryer.

“Oh no.” She gasps, the room is humid and smells horrible, the floor squelching beneath Kodi’s feet, and I wonder how long the air conditioning hasn’t been working in this room that it’s this damp and hot.

“I’ll get this sorted. But for now, just come with me.” I grab the suitcases and begin ushering Kodi towards my room. Stepping into my room is the exact opposite of Kodi’s. Ice cold air breezes, the carpet is dry and the king bed sitting in the middle of my room looks fit for a King.I rush to the room phone, calling the front desk immediately.

“This is Wendy.”

“Hey Wendy! This is Mr. Hart, you just checked us in, and well, Ms. Roscoe’s room is not habitable. The floor is soaked and the air conditioning is definitely not working. Do you have another room you can put her in?”

“Oh, Mr. Hart. I am so sorry about that, but unfortunately we are all booked up this weekend. I can offer the team a refund and bring a cot up for your companion.”Fuck.. There’s no way that I’m making Kodi sleep on a cot. The thought of sleeping in the same bed as her has my blood heating up.

“Well, okay then. If anything changes, please call me.”

“Of course, sir. Good luck tonight.”

“Thanks Wendy.” Setting the phone down and turning to Kodi who is playing around on her phone. “So I. . .uh, the hotel is booked up this weekend.”

She nearly loses her phone, frantically grabbing it to keep it from hitting the floor and looking up to me with wide eyes. “Oh. . .Um, okay. We will figure it out.”

“I’m so sorry to leave you like this, but I really have to get to the arena. Bella’s new jersey will be getting dropped off about an hour and a half before the game starts.” I know for a fact I have more to say to her, but my brain is so frazzled by the fact that we will definitely be sleeping in the same bed tonight. It is making every single thought I’ve had today leave my brain.

“Sounds good, Mav. Thank you. I’m excited to go to my first game.Good luck!”

Scooping Bella up, I give her a hug and kiss then set her down and head to the arena.

Once I’m in the Uber, I send her a quick message with the last bit of advice I had for tonight.

Hey Ko! I wanted to tell you a couple more things. I would try to get there thirty minutes prior to start time. You’ll be in seats right behind our bench. Feel free to grab some snacks and a drink, and I would bring Floppy for her in case she gets tired. There will also be family passes with her jersey so that after the game you can come down to the tunnel and wait for me. We can order food once we get back to the hotel together. I don’t want y'all walking in the dark by yourself after the game. Thanks again!

Then I pocket my phone, feeling my blood pumping in anticipation for this game and trying to figure out how we are going to handle one bed tonight.

ONE BED! We are now stuck with just one bed because my room was flooded and felt like the Amazon Rainforest as soon as we stepped into it.
