Me
You guys are no help!
Darcy
There is literally nothing we can do to help you.
My phone buzzes two more times. One message from Andy and one from Maverick. Hoping that Mavericks' message will soothe the irritation from Andy’s, I open the message from my ex first.
Andy
KJ, why did I hear from the barista that you aren’t working at Wake, Bake, Repeat anymore?
The audacity of this man to think that I owe him an update on my life.
Me
Because my life is no longer yours to keep track of.
I wait for a retort but it seems that was enough to shut him up for now.
Maverick
Hey, sorry I didn’t say bye this morning, didn’t want to wake you. Last night was nice, thanks for the chat.
So we still aren’t addressing the not-kiss from last night, which is perfectly fine because I don’t know what to say.
Me
Anytime, thanks for asking me silly questions to change the topic when I don’t want to talk.
Maverick
Anytime. Send updates.
Me
Of course. Talk later.
I hear Bella stirring through the speaker of my phone and head in to get her up and ready for the day. Peeking into her room, I see that she’s already up and moving around, “Good morning, Bella.”
“Good morning, Kodi!”
“We have tumble class today.”
“I like tumble class!”
“I’m excited to watch you.” I smile at her. “Flips and jumping need so much energy, so what do we always do first?”
“Eggs.” We get her pull-up changed after an attempt at sitting on the potty and put on her leopard-print, neon gymnastics leotard before heading to the kitchen.
“What else should we have with our eggs?”
“Hmmmm. . . toast.” I get busy with breakfast and coffee while she has a dance party in the living room with Floppy.
“Those are some cool moves Bella!”
“Watch this!” I don’t know what to call the move that follows, almost like a baby bird learning to fly combined with a fish out of water, but she’s having fun and that’s all that matters.
