The past couple weeks have been pure chaos.
The last thing I was expecting to happen when I returned from my last hit was to find a full-blown rebellion taking place. After all the bullshit Owen has put me through, especially in the last three years, I was more than happy with a change. Up until I came face to face with the group taking over.
Everly and her boys.
I’d heard of the boys before. Killian, Rayth, and Damon. Admired their work even. But some unknown girl stepping in and demanding complete loyalty? If she hadn’t already offed Owen and several of his loyal men, I might have put up a bit of a fight. As it is, I have no desire to be on the receiving end of their brutality. Especially Killian’s.
I shudder as the emotionless bastard fills my head. One day I may need to fight against them, but I’d much rather not make an enemy of the group unless completely necessary.
Looking through the detailed info compiled against Carver, I form my plan.
Everly’s got one thing going for her at least. The enemy of my enemy and all that.
Closing out of the link, I slip my phone and the small device into my pockets and get to work on gathering my supplies. My body hums with excitement as the moment I have spent nearly two decades dreaming of grows closer.
My revenge.
Kate’s justice.
Carver’s death.
Chapter 15
Nova
I take a sip of my coffee, careful to make my body language appear natural despite my nerves.
This is a stakeout remember.
Shifting my eyes, I study the man responsible for Hollis’ incapacitated state.
He’s big. It’s hard not to notice the sheer size of his frame. My gaze travels over him and I gulp at the thought of going toe-to-toe with the brute.
Fuck, he could probably crush my head with his thighs. Pop it open like those watermelon videos.
I suppress a shudder, turning my attention to my stakeout partner. West has his focus intently on his cell phone, typing out several messages, a sheen on his forehead as his fingers move frantically across the screen.
“All good in the hood?” I ask, leaning back in my seat.
West looks up, confusion on his face as he blinks at me. It takes a concerning amount of time for him to realize where he is, his face flaming as he shoves his phone away. “Oh god, Nov, I’m sorry. I had to…” Trailing off, he looks at our target, his shoulders tensing as he glares athim.
I kick West under the table, returning his attention to me. “Seriously?” I growl, exasperated.
Rubbing his shin, he glares at me. “Ouch.” He grumbles. “What was that for?”
“Um, maybe because you were being really fucking obvious.” I sigh, running a hand through my hair. “It’s like you’ve never done this before.”
West glares at me, crossing his arms as he pouts. “Oh come on, Nova. You know that’s not true.” Taking a large drink, I close my eyes, my mind flashing back.
I walk past the rich pervert, making sure to sway my ass as I do.
“Hey sweetheart.” He calls out, just as we knew he would.
I stop, looking around before landing my gaze on him. “Who, me?” I feign innocence, batting my eyes at him.
He smiles at me, the expression sending a shiver down my spine. “Oh yes you, darling.” Beckoning me over, he pats the seat next to him.
I quickly scan the room to make sure West is still watching before walking over and sinking into the booth beside Lester Astor. Our target for the evening.
