Page 69 of Scorching Lies

Growling, his teeth sink into my bottom lip, pulling and sucking. He dives in taking my mouth in a brutal kiss that leaves me aching for air. My heart is pounding behind my ribcage.

“If we’re going to catch Ally at the dorm we need to leave now. Come on fuckers let’s do this.”

West slaps the top of the couch on his way to the door, but Ryker keeps his mouth hovering over mine. Our breath mixes together in a heady combination of need and dominance. Stretching forward my tongue peeks out, running it across his bottom lip.

“Killer.” He warns.

Kissing the edge of his mouth, I flash him a wink and dash around him to join West at the door. All I hear behind me is the subtle flick of a lighter, his threat hanging in the air. My core clenches with the prospect.

“Promises, promises.” I murmur under my breath.

Wrapping both arms around my waist he drags me backwards back into the apartment. He moves one hand to my throat and the other to my center.

“I don’t make promises I can’t keep, baby.”

Rubbing two fingers into the center of my leggings, he waits for my legs to drift open before he releases me and moves around me to open the door that West is standing at. They walk out laughing at my frustration. It’s approaching seven at night by the time we pull up outside the dorms. We park away from my building to make sure she doesn’t see us coming. We don’t want the little bitch to go running. Cole’s been MIA for two days while Ally has been holed up in the dorm upset that he hasn’t talked to her. She can play it off as stress from finals, but I know better.

What I don’t understand is why would her dad send her here to be my roommate, yet not tell her about the fire? If he knows as much as she claims he does then what’s his plan? Alice Addington. I repeat that name over and over, reminding myself that there is no coming back from this. Having a hand in the foundations games? Being related by blood to the one fucking person that’s caused us the most pain? How long has she known? During her little story time she mentioned that there was a behind the scenes play that we don’t suspect and that has worry pulling at me.

“Are we taking her to The Basement?” I ask.

West looks at me in the rearview mirror, I chose the backseat against Rykers demands, so that I could have space to process my thoughts. I’ve proved my dad had nothing to do with the fire. I just haven’t had time to tell the brothers. Not with Cole goneand Ally being discovered as an inside man for her father. Who seems to have a vendetta against not only the Stone family, but also the Kingston family. For all I know, he could be my fucking shadow. Fucker wears so many masks, but we’re about to rip each one off that traitorous face.

“Let’s get this shit over with.” West swings his door open.

We step out into the darkness that covers the dark SUV under the broken streetlight. The school has avoided fixing this light at the request of one extremely possessive asshole. The same one who just pushed my hair back to kiss the side of my neck. We make our way into the building and head up to my floor. It’s quiet on campus tonight, almost eerie. Pulling out my key I move to open the door, but Ryker beats me to it with a key he has on his keychain.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” I grit.

Looking over his shoulder with a look of a sly kid who stole money from his mom’s purse, “You think I’d let you change the locks without making my own?” He says.

West ignores our exchange, his leg bouncing, waiting for the lock to disengage. Opening the door we come face to face with Ally, who is sitting on the couch bundled under her fluffy pink blanket with a bowl of popcorn.

“You almost missed movie night.”

“Sorry, I guess I’ve been a shitty friend lately.” I shrug.

Stepping inside I move to the left letting both brothers in and shutting the door. Ally looks over at the boys and then looks back at me with a brow raised.

“I didn’t realize we were having company.”

Her tone is polite, but she’s obviously confused and rightfully so. To her, Ryker is enemy number one and West is just an ex she sees when she has to. But having them both here? And invited by me? It’s not something she would ever see coming and that’s what I’m going for. Deciding to drag this out to see what we can get from her, I walk over to the couch and sit down. Propping my hands on my knees I lean forward keeping my eyes on her.

“What’s going on?” She laughs but it’s shaky.

“Have you heard from Cole?” West asks.

Her stare moves from mine to his before she looks back at me. Ignoring the man she used as a fuck buddy to get closer to us.

“Not since he ghosted me yesterday. I’ve text him a few times, but figured he was busy or just didn’t want to see me.”

She rolls her eyes with a shrug, popping a handful of buttery popcorn in her mouth, she looks at each of us. Her demeanor changes when she looks at Ryker. He doesn’t hide how he feels, so she picks up his hostile energy immediately. I go to speak, but my phone rings. Pulling it from my pocket my eyes widened at the name on the screen. I don’t ever remember saving it. Cole’s name flashes at me.

“Cole?”

West and Ryker move towards me, but my hand flying up halts them. Well, one of them. Ryker steps into me attempting to listen.

“Kenna?” His words are slurred and unsure.
