“Ugh. You’re so in love it makes me sick.” Sugar grinned and pulled each of us into a hug. “Get out of here. We’ll take care of cleaning up. Lord knows I don’t have anything else to do.”
“Nothing? At all?” I raised my eyebrows at her and smiled. “How’s Steve?”
She scoffed. “How would I know?”
Bianca and I looked at each other and laughed. Everyone had a sneaking suspicion Sugar was finally getting her time with Steve but she wouldn’t admit it.
“Okay, okay.” I kissed Lennon and then Dean before taking off my shoes and handing them to Dean. “I’m going to go get Reed.”
“You can take the girl out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the girl.” Lennon smirked at my bare feet. “Reed’s going to be unhappy about the potential danger of walking barefoot.”
I bit my lip and shrugged. “I know.”
Dean licked his lips and nodded. “Go ahead. I love when you bring out his protective side.”
We all knew I’d perfected the art of pushing Reed’s buttons just the right way to get a night of crazy sex. Not that he seemed to mind. He’d been perfecting new rope techniques on me that not only spread me open for their use but took the weight of my stomach off my back. It was heaven in every way.
Reed leaned against the side of his truck with his arms crossed, his eyes on my feet as I walked closer. I watched his mouth twitch when he lifted his eyes to mine. “You looking for trouble, Hellcat?”
I slipped my arms around his waist and smiled up at him. “Your special kind of trouble, yes. Let’s go home, Reed.”
He studied my face and gently pushed my hair behind my ears. “You’re exhausted, baby.”
“I’m okay.” I wanted sex more than I wanted to rest.
“If you agree to a nap, I’ll bring out the purple ropes.” He leaned closer. “I won’t send you to bed without a little something, baby. I know you too well to think you’d ever make that deal without something extra thrown in.”
I sighed happily. “I love you, Reed.”
“I love you too, Hellcat.” He kissed me while trailing his hand down to my ass. “Let’s get you and the kid home.”
“I’m not riding in the back with Bobby. I saw him steal a plate of hot dogs and he’s going to start farting soon.” I looked out to spot the stinky dog but my eyes caught on a car coming up the driveway instead.
Something about it kept my attention. A feeling in my gut or something similar had me focused. I stepped away from Reed so I could keep it in my line of sight as it parked. I held my breath as I waited for the door to open and the driver to get out.
“What’s wrong, Vera?”
I was about to answer Reed when the door opened and a tall woman with hair a few shades lighter than mine stepped out. She looked around the party but when her gaze landed on me, it froze. I gasped and Reed went into bodyguard mode. I pulled him to a stop, though, because I knew the woman staring back at me. She was the sister I hadn’t seen in over a decade. Nellie had come home.
The End.
