“Why do you want me in your life? You said it yourself, this was supposed to be something quick and fun. What made you change your mind?”
“I had the most fun I’ve had in years, and now I don’t want it to be so quick.” He sighed and held out his hand. “What do you want me to say here, Jill? That I love having you around and that you make me happy? That I love sitting across a table from you and watching you eat? That I can’t imagine sleeping alone in my bed when I know what it feels like to wake up next to you? That you make me believe I can find happiness with someone else again. That I love taking care of you and making you happy makes me the happiest I’ve been in a long time…”
Choking on a sob, she ran toward him and threw herself into his arms. “All I wanted was one reason,” she whispered, burying her face in the crook of his neck.
“I have a dozen others,” he whispered. “I want you, Jill. And that’s all the reason that matters.”
She nodded, not bothering to hide her tears of joy. “I want you too.”
Lowering his head, he captured her lips in a kiss so sweet it made her toes curl. “Come on, we’ll take my car.”
“So are we boyfriend and girlfriend now?” she asked as they walked to his car, him carrying her bags.
“We’re whatever you want us to be. All I know is that you’re my sweet little Princess…”
“And you’re my Daddy,” she finished, her heart singing with joy as they walked hand in hand.
