"You're seeing their astral glow," answered Marit. "They keep burning even when there's no representation on the physical plane."

"Etheric also, since I can see it," said Corbi.

My partners cuddled me, and I looked at the lanterns burning on the table, seemingly as plain as day, knowing I would only get to view them like this for a few moments and only because my more clairvoyant partners were so close to me. I thought about the mysterious and strange mystic, now deceased, who had wandered through Danubian lands until he found Ulbrecht and coached him tounderstand the gods behind the lanterns, and to know that they watched him when he fought to defends his borders.

The picture painted in my mind's eye led to Wren taking over the mystic's position, and how quickly Wren and Ulbrecht had fallen together. Also Awariye, who now wanted to travel and sing of the lanterns as soon as they gave permission, and who planned to at least travel around and sing songs about this lantern king. Awariye had found Igor, Ulbrecht's top fighter, and the two seemed so besotted with each other.

And then the lanterns had found us.

Their dancing flames dazzled in my vision, and my words came from somewhere outside myself. "These gods might be doing this to nurture the natural world; that certainly seems to be true. But if they are looking for humans to interact with, then it seems they prefer humans with an open and honest sense of love."

Marit hummed in thought. "Love is energy on the astral plane. If untainted by other more binding emotions, such as selfish motives or dark intentions, then the openhearted type of love that is willing to listen could be a conduit of communication down the planes of existence. That is certainly what the mystics use in order to reach upward toward the divine."

I let that thought settle in and take root, a sapling eager to burgeon and grow into a mighty tree.

Corbi quipped, "If that's what they want, then they've certainly found the right set of monks."

He pokedmy side, and I giggled, pulled out of my reverie. I kissed him, then leaned over to Marit to give him a smooch. "I can offer them that. When we get back to the monastery, I want to jump fully into my training. I want to see why they've called to us, and why Dunu gave me that rosary. If they really are protectors of peace, then I want to see where this leads."

"We will travel this path with you," promised Corbi.

Marit squeezed my hand. "I've been a monk for decades, but I feel the warrior archetype calling me. Indeed, it's time to leave the monastery. There is a path opening in front of us that our higher souls clearly yearn to take. We'll stay together, and hopefully our love will get us through."

"I know it will," I confirmed, with all my heart.
