“True,” Katya agreed.
“So a wind Faecouldbe a Wind Walker?” Tessa asked in confusion.
“I guess so,” Theon said, trying to get his thoughts in order. “Did any of the Fae who were moved to the Celeste Estate emerge with wind and air magic?”
“Lange and Brecken,” Kat supplied.
“And Dex,” Tessa added.
“How about the others?” Luka asked.
“Oralia and Corbin emerged with water,” Tessa said. “Do you think the Anahita Legacy have a special power that can pass down to descendants too?”
“I don’t know why not,” Theon said. “All the gods have some gift unique to them. The Firsts have several. It’s why the Arius Legacy gifts vary. We each get one.”
“Unless you can combine your power with a Source,” Tessa said.
“Exactly.”
“But I have several gifts.”
Everyone went silent at that blunt statement of fact.
“That’s why we’re here, beautiful,” Theon said, reaching over and smoothing a hand down her hair before brushing his lips along her temple.
“Do you think that’s why I ended up at the Celeste Estate?” she asked. “Because Mother Cordelia somehow knew what I was?”
“I don’t think sheknowswhat you are,” Theon replied. “I think she figured out a way to find powerful Fae.”
“What about Kat, then?” Axel asked. “Are we saying we think she has Legacy blood in her veins?”
“I guess it’s possible,” Theon answered. “We haven’t seen anything extra that would suggest so, but her power levels are high.”
“Wait, wait, wait,” Tessa cut in. “If this is happening, what do their documents say? You said they list the parents of the Fae and where they were born. How would these random babes not be discovered right away?”
“Someone is helping them. It’s the only plausible answer,” Luka said.
“But who?” Tessa asked.
No one said anything because no one had an answer. It had to be a Legacy. They would need connections to be able to pullsomething like this off. Connections to the estates and access to files. Relations with the Fae. A Legacy openly sympathizing with the Fae was unheard of.
Gods, where would they even hide a pregnant Fae? And how the fuck were they sneaking them into estates?
The whole idea was preposterous, but like Kat said, it all fit.
“Are you going to claim them?” Tessa asked.
Theon looked down at her. “Claim who?”
“The others that you think might be mixed bloodlines.”
Axel leaned back in his chair, pushing it back on two legs. “It’s not a terrible idea.”
“How are you going to explain that to Valter without revealing everything else we’ve discovered?” Luka asked.
“We have four early claims left,” Theon said thoughtfully. “The move would undoubtedly draw attention.”
“So we don’t use them all. Claim two,” Axel said.
