It’s Whiskey. Thank you. Have a great time. I look forward to both of you coming home.
Home. It didn’t feel like it anymore. She turned the phone over. She stood and walked to her closet and pulled out a dark blue dress and a pair of black boots with a heel.
She turned on the shower and began taking out her braid. Her typical easy-going style. She shook out her hair and decided to curl it for a change. After all, she deserved to let her hair down once in a while.
An hour later she stood in front of the mirror. She skillfully applied her makeup and did last-minute touch-ups on her hair. She went into LJ’s room to wake him up to dress for dinner. Bryan planned to arrive within the hour and her child slept like the dead.
“LJ, honey you need to get up. Mr. Jennings wants to show us the sights of the city. It’s starting to get dark, and you don’t want to miss all the lights,” she prompted her son.
“I’m tired, Mom,” he whined.
“If you don’t get up now, you won’t sleep later. I thought you wanted to go on an adventure,” she coaxed.
LJ rolled over to gaze at her. He sat up and rubbed his eyes.
Samantha got his clothes out and pulled the shirt over his head before slipping the clean one on. She waited while he took off his jeans and she handed him a pair of dark blue dress pants.
“I’ll be in the living room. Bring me your comb to fix your hair when you finish.” She walked through the suite and found Becky snapping photos of herself in the window with the lights of New York as the background, a far cry from Serenity Mountain.
“Here let me get a good shot of you,” Samantha offered as she held her hands out for Becky’s phone. The doorbell rang indicating Bryan’s arrival.
“Hold your pose, I gotta get the door,” she walked over to the entrance to let him in.
Bryan stood there with a single rose in his hand. “It was locally grown without pesticides,” he proudly held the flower out to her.
“How can you be sure?” She cocked her head slightly and smiled at him. She noticed his eyes traveled down her dress in an appreciative sweep over her body.
“You’re stunning. It came from my mother’s greenhouse, and she refuses to use any chemicals. You two might get along famously. I’ll admit I don’t practice organic all the time, but after meeting you, I find myself fascinated by it.” Bryan stepped inside the entry way.
LJ ran out of his room. “Mom! I combed my hair.”
“Inside voice, please.” She reminded her son. “LJ this is Mr. Jennings. Bryan this is my son, LJ and the young lady standing over there waiting to get her picture with this amazing view behind her, is Becky.”
Bryan bent down to eye level. “Hey little man, ya ready to go see my town?” He made a manly fist bump, making LJ smile.
“Yeah.” her son responded.
“I’ll be right back,” she told him as she gestured to the phone in her hand and Becky. She walked over and snapped photos of her assistant with the view behind her.
“Let me get one of you and LJ,” Becky offered.
LJ ran up to his mom and wrapped his arms around her waist.
“Oh, raise LJ higher, I can only get his head with the view,” she suggested. Samantha bent to grab her son when she felt Bryan’s hand on her arm.
“I wouldn’t mind getting a picture of your first visit to the Big Apple. What do ya say, LJ can I hold ya up so you can be as high as those buildings back there?”
LJ laughed as Bryan swung him up higher and the three of them smiled into the camera.
“Who’s ready for the best pizza in the entire world?” Bryan asked.
Her son’s eyes widened. “The entire world?”
“Yep and you’re gonna try it and make sure it’s the best you’ve ever eaten.” Bryan set LJ down and he ran to get his coat.
“I’ll grab my coat and we’re ready to go.” She felt his eyes follow her into her bedroom. She felt a shiver go through her at the feeling of a man desiring her.
She grabbed her bag and coat. Her phone sat on the table, and she picked it up to see another text from her soon to be ex-husband.
