My grip on his face transferred to his ear and I pulled him closer to me. No amount of skin on skin was close enough. Kent rolled over to kneel above my body without breaking our embrace. Our kisses deepened until I couldn’t tell who was the giver and who the receiver was.
I dragged my legs up and crossed my ankles at his back. I was ready for him. More than. When I’d changed into my sleep shirt, I was too tired to bend down and put on panties. I was open, slick, and ready to properly reunite with Kent.
“Oomph.” Kent fell forward, pressing his weight on me. “Dammit, Tyger, read the room.”
Our cat peered over Kent’s shoulder as if checking on me. The absurdity of the situation got the better of me and I giggled.
Kent glared at me, though there was no heat in his glower. “That’s it. Reunion over. Mom and Dad need their time alone.” He rose with an aggrieved breath.
Tyger, losing purchase, clung to him. When the cat was about to fall, he made a last-ditch effort to climb the rest of the way up to Kent’s head then to leap on me.
“I don’t think so,” Kent said as he plucked the cat off my body. “You and your brothers sleep outside.” He put all the animals out, then turned to me. “Now, where were we?”
“I need you to accept my apology for leaving you the way I did.”
“Apology accepted.”
“But I didn’t explain that?—”
“You did it for Ife? I know all that. And I know it must have hurt a lot to make the choice.”
“But…”
“Tell me one thing. When you left, did you take my most cherished gift with you?”
I clutched my chest, recalling the words I’d spoken during his homecoming. “No, my heart is still in your safekeeping.”
“As I thought.” Kent sighed and shook his head. “Little bunny, do you think I don’t understand how difficult it was for you to walk away, knowing you left a piece of yourself behind? Or that you loved my daughter enough to sacrifice a love unlike any other? Or that I wouldn’t love you more for not wanting to be the source of friction between us? The apology you owe me is for deciding without me. You once said we needed to be partners. Where was our partnership when you didn’t include my wishes?”
I nodded, humbled by his reasoning. “You’re right, and I am sorry for excluding you. I promise I’ll include you from now on.”
“Now that that’s out of the way?—”
“I also want to pick out my wedding dress,” I blurted.
The gleam in his eyes as he sauntered towards me was a sign I wouldn’t have another opportunity to voice my wants before he overwhelmed me with passion.
Kent stumbled and a flush rose to his face. “Would you be willing to accept a dress your mother chose?”
My heart skipped. “That depends. Was it a dress she wore when she exchanged her vows?”
“She mentioned something along those lines. With updates to make it a little more modern, of course. If you don’t like it, take up your issues with your mother.”
I’d loved my mother’s wedding dress from the time I could crawl. “I want to see it now.” I flew out of the bed, but Kent wrapped his arm around my waist and swung me back toward the bed.
“You will wait until morning. Any other demands?” He kneeled before me and spread my legs open. He hissed at the sight of my wet, naked pussy peeking from between my thighs. “Little bunny…”
“Yeah, I have one more.” I moaned with a devilish smile. “Put your mouth where?—”
EPILOGUE
Kent
Hope and new life whispered in the winds as they caressed my face. The sun’s warm rays added to my excitement, a sentiment I’d built up over the last six months.
Once Madison agreed to the wedding and convinced her mother I hadn’t coerced her into accepting my proposal, we honeymooned for four months with a random trip home. Ife continued to run Luxe Locations as the interim CEO while Madison and I strengthened our bond.
I planned to return in another month or so because Valentino’s recently appointed Director of Boards and Commissions approved a new Luxe construction project. The company would have to demolish a dilapidated property we had on the books for a while, and I intended to oversee it while establishing a beneficial working relationship with the new director.
