“Knock knock, who’s there?”
I stilled, feeling the blood seep into my flats shoes. She was gone. Another one of my friends…dead. I slowly leaned down, reaching for what felt like a pan. The maniacal laughter and wet footsteps were getting closer to me.
Taking a deep breath, I smashed the pan forward as hard as I could.
Making contact with something, I dropped the pan and ran, only to run right into a wall of muscle.
“Hey there, Little One.”
I breathed a sigh of relief and tugged on Judas to move.
“Oh, thank god! Judas, c’mon, we have to move!”
“Why? What’s going on?”
Shoving his thick build with zero ability to make him move even an inch forward, I slapped my fist against him. “C’mon! Please, it’s dangerous!”
Shrugging me off, Judas gripped my arms and patted me.“We get alerts on the time, Little Cop. No fuss.”
I growled and swatted his hand off my head. “No! Judas, you don’t understand! There’s some crazy person over there, and he killed Megan!”
Judas laughed. “Zee, if you haven’t noticed yet, we’re all crazy in this hell hole.”
Exasperated, I shoved him harder, battering his ass to get him to move. Finally, he walked forward. “Okay, okay, you weirdo. I think we’re rubbing off on you.”
Happy that the stupid head was finally moving, I ignored that comment and reached for my phone.
Mother fucker. It was gone.
Shuffling feet sounded, and I took them for guards, so I shouted for them.
“Hey! He’s over here! Please help!”
A flashlight shone our way, and a guard ran over to us. The next thing I know, I’m being smashed against the wall and roughly searched. The guard’s friend did the same to Judas.
“Hey, hey, watch the goods!”
The guards were smashing us around on the wall, and the bolt of electricity jolted me, frying my body and throwing me onto the ground in pain.
A radio crackle hissed. “We have two detained. There’s another victim.”
I groaned at the pain in my body and fought the tugging hands. “No, you idiots. We didn’t kill Megan. There was another person here. I hit him, and he was on the ground. You have to go look for him….”
The guard kicked me in the side, and Judas growled. I heard the guard shriek in pain. A cracking sound echoed in my ear, and then the light of the shocks appeared again as a now limping guard was frying Judas.
“Stop it! Stop hurting him!” I screamed, kicking blindly in the darkness.
That got me another kick, and the glaring light turned at me.This time, the shock was so powerful that I felt myself vibrate and flop on the ground. The pain engulfed me. Judas was passed out beside me, the pain too much, and as I stared into the eyes of the angry guards, I knew I was next. The last thing to enter my mind before the black abyss swallowed me was ‘Tick-tock, another drops.’
When we arrived back at Hospital Twelve, the alarm and flashing lights kept giving me flashbacks to my worst nightmares. By the look of Micah, it was having the same effect on him.
“You got this, Micah?” I asked, steadying his shoulders. Pharaoh looked ready to face whatever unseen threat was inside, and the three of us pushed open the doors.
The smell of blood hit us the instant we walked in. There were nurses and guards dead on the floor with their necks sliced open in the shape of a fucked-up smile. Some patients were hiding in corners, trying to hide from the invisible enemy.
It was quiet, too quiet, even with the blaring alarm and the red light spinning overhead. It was pitch black inside, and we had to rely on our flashlights.
Where is Jude’s?” Roe said, looking toward the corner of the male cells.
