“Where is Vas taking you?” She made a beeline for Anna’s closet, sliding open the mirrored door.

“For dinner, I don’t know, but we’re going to the movies after.”

Tiffany raised a brow. “So most likely nowhere too fancy.”

Anna watched as she flicked hangers, stopping on a top her mom had given her for Christmas two years before and that still had the tags on it.

“This is perfect.” She held up the black halter top, the long, wide ties that were supposed to be worn wrapped around the waist almost hanging to the floor. “Sexy, but not too sexy.”

Anna was already shaking her head before she finished speaking. “I can’t wear a bra with it.”

Tiffany grinned. “Even better.”

“I don’t know.”

“Come on. Try it on at least.”

Anna supposed there was no harm in that and took the top from Tiffany.

“Where’s all your jeans?” she asked, still flipping through hangers.

Anna pointed to her dresser. “In the bottom drawer.”

Tiffany pulled out her darkest pair. “Here, you can wear the top with these.”

Anna went into the bathroom and changed, turning this way and that, trying to see every angle in the small mirror above the sink. She supposed if she wore a sweater the top wouldn’t be too revealing.

“Let’s see,” Tiffany shouted through the closed door. “Oh, you look great. Very sexy,” she said as soon as Anna stepped out.

Sexy was not the look she was going for on her first date with Vas and decided she would definitely wear a sweater.

“And you can wear those cute boots you had on the other day.” Tiffany turned to her and smiled. “Now, for hair and makeup.”

An hour later, Anna looked at herself in the full-length closet mirror and had to admit she didn’t look half bad. Usually frizzy unless worn up, Tiffany had performed a miracle, giving her hair a sleek look with loose curls that fell down her back, and she’d even managed to conceal the freckles that dotted the bridge of her nose. Not used to wearing a lot of makeup, the heavily lined, smoky eye Tiffany had given her was a bit jarring, but not in a bad way.

“What do you think?” Tiffany asked, coming up behind her, their eyes locking in the mirror.

“I look… very pretty,” she admitted.

Tiffany snorted. “You’re a babe and you know it.” She pulled out her phone and looked at the screen. “Shoot, I better go. I don’t want to be late for work and Vas will be here soon.”

“Thanks for all your help,” Anna said, showing her friend to the door.

“You can pay me back by telling me every juicy detail about your date.”

She wasn’t sure there’d be a lot to tell but agreed anyway. “Deal.”

Anna watched her friend walk across the courtyard and out the exit gate before closing and locking her door.

Okay, first things first, she needed to find a sweater.

When Anna answered Vas’s knock at five o’clock sharp—she knew this because she’d been watching the time like some obsessed weirdo—the first thing she noticed when she threw open the door was a large bouquet of flowers.

“Wow, those are…”humongous. “Beautiful. Come in. Let me find a vase.”

She took the bundle he handed over and Anna got a subtle whiff of woodsy cologne mixed with the sweetness of blossoms as Vas stepped past her to enter.

“You look beautiful, as well.” His words were nice but were belied by the frown on his face while saying them.
