They both went back to watching TV, one show ending and another one starting.

“Vas?”

“Hmm?”

“Do you want to stay over tonight?”

In response, he leaned over and picked up the remote. Then after clicking off the TV, he picked her up and carried her to bed.

“So how are things going between you and Vas?” Tiffany was crouched under the counter, digging in the cabinets, as she and Anna took inventory of supplies during the lull before the dinner rush.

Anna felt her cheeks heat.

“Oh, my God, you did it,” Tiffany squeaked, far too loudly.

Anna quickly glanced at the one occupied table, but thankfully the customer’s head was buried in their tablet and seemed oblivious to Tiffany’s outburst. “A lady doesn’t kiss and tell.”

“Well, lady, you don’t need to tell. It’s written all over your face in bright-red print.” Then she said as an aside, “We need two packages of napkins.”

Anna looked down at the clipboard she held and searched the list for napkins, marking a small two next to it.

“So how was it?” Tiffany’s smirk had Anna’s cheeks heating even hotter.

Anna hesitated a moment. It felt weird having a girlfriend to open up to. But she and Tiffany had grown close the last couple of months and she felt it safe to share, “It was amazing.”

Tiffany snickered. “I bet it was. I love Luke and he’s hot and great in bed, but Vas, that man is in a league all of his own.”

Anna found herself opening up a bit more. “I know we’ve only been together a short time, but I’ve never felt for anyone what I feel for Vas. It’s crazy and scary and wonderful all at the same time.”

Tiffany stood, brushing her hands on the thighs of her jeans, coming to stand next to her. “I’m happy for you.” She reached over and squeezed Anna’s hand. “Seriously, you’re the sweetest person I know and deserve only the best.”

Anna felt her eyes fill with unexpected tears, touched by Tiffany’s words. She blinked swiftly, hoping to stay them off. “Thank you. That means a lot. I don’t have many friends in my life, but I count you as one of the best.”

Tiffany was doing some suspiciously speedy blinking of her own before she blurted, “Hey, we should go on a double date.”

That did sound fun. Anna wondered if Vas would be up for that. “What did you have in mind?”

“I saw this new laser tag place that just opened up. I’ve always wanted to give that a try. We both have Friday night off. If Vas is game, we can do it then.”

“I’ll ask him tonight if he comes in.”

Tiffany gave her a knowing smile. “Don’t you meanwhenhe comes in?”

Anna gave her a knowing grin back. That’s totally what she meant.

Vas had agreed to the double date, and Anna and Tiffany were currently in the women’s locker room, suiting up in laser tag gear.

“I feel like the Dark Side’s version of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man,” Tiffany said while trying to hook her chest plate around the slick, parachute material, spinning in a circle, looking like a dog chasing its tail.

Anna giggled. “Come here. I’ll buckle that for you.”

Tiffany eyed her up and down. “How come yours fits so well?”

“They gave me a large youth. Probably because I’m so short.”
