Groaning, he tipped her head back farther and their tongues went into battle. Her nipples pebbled and her core tightened. She pressed against him for a modicum of relief.

They were both panting when he ripped his mouth away.

He moved his hands to cup her face, his thumbs brushing along the apples of her cheeks.

She watched him gain control in that time, his eyes going from heated to liquid. She didn’t have as much control, she still ached and her legs were shaking.

“Can’t take much more of that, and now’s not the time.” Tiredness mixed with regret filled his tone and for the first time she noticed the fatigue dulling his expression.

She brought her hands up to cup his cheeks, mimicking his movements, only her thumbs brushed the shallow lines that feathered his eyes. “You’re exhausted.” Even if he had been able to sleep during his flight, fourteen hours on a plane was a long time. Not to mention the time change.

“Worth it to see you sooner.”

“But now you need sleep.” She’d love to spend more time with him but his health was more important. To temper the admonishment she suggested, “I have tomorrow off. You can come see my new place and I can make us dinner.”

“Sounds perfect. Feels like forever since I’ve had a home-cooked meal.”

“Well, I’m no Gordan Ramsey, but I can guarantee it will taste better than what you were fed on the plane.”

“I’m looking forward to it.” He moved them from in front of her car door and held out a hand. “Keys.”

She scrounged through her bag, pulling them out, and he took them, popping the lock and opening the door for her to get in.

He leaned his upper body into the car as she slid behind the wheel, giving her a brief kiss. “Text me when you get home.”

“I will.” She stuck her key in the ignition and started the car. “Now go, get some sleep.”

Vas slammed her door shut, and she waved when her headlights illuminated his smile as she backed out.

Chapter 18

Anna raced down the stairs when the doorbell rang, a smile on her lips in greeting as she flung the door open. “You’re here.”

Vas chuckled, looking refreshed and well rested as he stepped over the threshold, pulling her in for a hug. He smelled of cedar and citrus and she closed her eyes breathing him in. She’d missed that scent while he’d been gone.

Taking his hand, she pulled him up the stairs, saying once they reached the top, “Isn’t this place great?” She flung her arm out to the side, à la Vanna White. “Here’s the kitchen.” Then she pointed straight ahead. “And the living room. Oh, and through the sliding door is a huge balcony that overlooks a really pretty lawn area with trees and flowers. Upstairs is the bedroom and master bath.” She stopped gushing once they reached the breakfast bar which divided the kitchen from the main room.

Vas was smiling. “It seems like you love it.”

“I do.” And she was ridiculously happy to have Vas in her space. “I’m going to get dinner started. Feel free to look around.”

She watched Vas disappear up the stairs then made her way into the kitchen. Pulling items out of the fridge, she piled them on the counter, crossing her fingers that Vas liked Mexican food. Wanting to go as far from Asian as possible, she’d decided on enchiladas as she toured the supermarket that morning.

She was frying the ground beef when she felt the hair at her neck pulled away and Vas’s lips replace it, his hands landing on her hips.

“Can dinner wait?” He murmured against her skin, his touch rounding to her stomach, pressing her ass into his stiff erection.

Excited butterflies instantly filling her belly, she flicked off the burner and turned in his arms, a small smile on her lips. “Yes.”

“Good.” He dipped, grasping her behind the thighs, lifting her up. “I want dessert first.”

“I’m going to assume that means what I think it means.”

Legs wrapped around his waist, arms around his neck, he started walking them toward the stairs. “The only thing that got me through the last two weeks was thoughts of you. I’d lie awake at night, fisting my dick, fantasizing about all the things I wanted to do to you.”

Well that answered that question. Several thoughts entered her head. The main one being—they were actually going to have sex. She always figured sex was something people got better at with practice, making her far from an expert. Doubt set in and when that happened, the butterflies in her stomach became anxious.

“You’re shaking.”
