“Gwen wait,” Allie called.

She looked back over her shoulder. While still close, Allie and Dillan were no longer in an embrace.

“Everything okay? You’re home early.”

She gave Allie a nod. “I had that meeting with you-know-who this afternoon.”

Scooting to the edge of the sofa, she asked, “Oh. How’d it go?”

Gwen’s eyes flicked to Dillan, “It was good. I’ll tell you about it later.” She waved a hand. “Carry on.”

Quietly closing her bedroom door, she went to the closet and changed from her work clothes into sweats and a tee. She then threw herself on the bed feeling exhausted. And not just from two nights of restless sleep but also her phone call with Blake.

What she couldn’t figure out was, if he was done with her, why did he keep butting into her life? It was confusing.

And speaking of confusing, what the heck was Allie doing with Dillan? And when did that come about? She was antsy, dying to know all the details. Her first impression of Dillan had been less than flattering, but she’d been wrong before.

Many times.

It was only about ten minutes later when she heard the front door close and then less than a minute after that, a soft tap on her door.

Allie poked her head in. “You decent?”

“Yes. Get in here.”

She came all the way in and sat at the foot of the bed. “So, how did the meeting go?”

“No way.” Gwen sat up, getting comfortable against the headboard. “You first. What was that all about?” She didn’t have to specify whatthatshe meant.

Allie actually blushed. Gwen didn’t know she had it in her. “We were on set today and got to talking. Then talking led to lunch. Then lunch led to…” she waved in the general direction of the bedroom door, “kissing on the couch.”

Gwen grinned. “And maybe other things if I hadn’t come home early?”

A smirk pulled at Allie’s lips. “Maybe.”

“Well, sorry to vagina-block you.”

“It’s probably for the best. And who knows, maybe I’ll get dinner next time instead of lunch.”

Gwen shook her head. “You deserve more than just dinner.”

“No. He’s not someone you get serious about. Too much of a player. But he is fun to look at.”

Gwen laughed and wondered if that’s where she’d gone wrong with Blake. Had she tried to make things too serious instead of just having a good time? Maybe her heart wouldn’t be hurting so badly now if she had.

“But enough about that. Tell me, how did the meeting with Frank go?”

“Oh, my God. You won’t believe it if I tell you.”

“What? I’m dying here.”

She paused a moment. “Shit, I signed an NDA.”

Allie scoffed. “Only you would worry about something like that.”

But she did. She knew Allie wouldn’t intentionally say anything, but what if she let something slip by accident while talking to Frank. It might jeopardize her chance at the job.

She shook her head. “I can’t tell you anything about the actual show, but I can tell you, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and it involves travel to foreign countries.”
