Page 47 of Everything I Need

“It isn’t your fault. Honestly, we should have seen this coming. Michael is an ass and has been since before they got pregnant with Oliver.” Scarlett looks worried for Lacey.

“Well. Looks like we’ll be taking in Lacey soon too, huh?” I joke.

“Looks that way.” But there is no trace of joking in her voice.

“Addy, do you mind if I steal my girl for a dance?”

“Nope. you guys go. That just means more cheese fries for me.” She grabs a fry and pops it in her mouth.

After dancing with Scarlett, the girls stick around for a little bit more then they leave us for cookies and movies at Addy’s.

“So, Lacey seems pretty awesome. I mean, Addy and Lacey are both pretty awesome.” Colton blushes at realizing what he said.

“It seems you two have a bit in common.” I smirk.

“Did you know she started her own salon in Maine and has grown it, but now she has to sell it to one of her other employees? I can’t imagine having to sell my business because of Elizabeth.”

“I can’t imagine. That has to be hard.” It must suck to give up everything you’ve worked for.

“Do you think Scarlett would be mad that I got her number? You know just to be there for each other since we’re in the middle of the same kind of divorce, except for the kid thing.”

Oh, this will be interesting.

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Scarlett

Ihavetoadmit,it was nice seeing Preston at the bar. I’m glad my sisters got to know him a little better outside of the doctor role. But I am happy to be back at Addy’s with just my sisters, eating cookies from Mom.

We pushed Addy’s ottoman in and made her couch like a big bed. We got tons of pillows and blankets and will be all settled in with snacks and movies for the night once Lacey comes back from talking to Oliver.

“You love him.” Addy decides now is a good time to bring this up?

“I’m sorry, I love him?” I look at her with a questioning look.

“Yup. You sure do. You guys look at each other like Mom and Dad did.” She gets a love struck look on her face.

“Addy, I think you had a few too many drinks.” I laugh.

“She probably did. But I had none, and I saw the same thing.” Oh, great, Lacey is back from talking to Oliver at just the right moment.

“You guys are. . .”

“Don’t, Scarlett. Don’t try to talk yourself out of this. Just admit it.” Lacey admonishes.

“Okay, how about we get back to the fact that Michael has a girlfriend and you’re thinking of moving back.” Two can play this game.

“Nope. Not until you admit you love Preston.” Lacey negotiates.

“Fine. I will admit, my feelings are stronger than they have been for a man in a long time. Since Preston.” I shrug.

“Try again, Scarlett.” Addy pushes.

Man, this tag teaming was not something I missed.

“What do you guys want me to say? I had him pegged all wrong? He’s so caring, kind, funny, and you’ve seen him, he’s definitely the hottest guy I’ve ever been with.” I deflect.

“You practically live with him! I’m always waiting for the call that you’re moving out of Mom’s house and need help packing. You’re always together. Work and home.” Addy states.
