Page 50 of Everything I Need

I give Scarlett what she wants. I tilt her hips to me further to go deeper. Wrapping my arm around her I roll her nipple between my fingers. She moans again, and I need to run medical terms through my head to stay with her.

“Preston. It feels so good. Don’t stop” I speed up, watching myself thrust in and out of her. I wrap one arm around her stomach while the other continues teasing her nipple. Not long after we come together, always in sync. She spins in my arms to kiss me with a ferocity that I match. I use the kiss to convey to her how I feel about her. I deepen the kiss, wrapping my hand in her hair. She melts into me, and I swallow every soft moan. We pull apart and I stare into her eyes. Those beautiful baby blues that seem to be saying more than she is ready to say yet. This moment gives me hope that earlier she really was just thinking about something else.

This weekend I’m going to let her know just how special she is to me.

Colton and I are summoned to our father’s house for a family dinner while Scarlett is in Boston.

So here we are, on a Thursday after work, driving to our father’s house. Little did we know, there was a dinner party happening, not a family dinner. How wonderful.

“Sons. I’m glad you could make it this evening.” My father says so formally.

“Father. You didn’t tell us this was a dinner party. We thought it was just us.” Colton points out his omission.

“Of course. If I had told you, you wouldn’t have come, would you?” He’s so fucking manipulative.

“What is the end game here, Father?” I ask.

“Colton and Elizabeth need to sort themselves out. She will be here shortly, and I expect civil behavior from both of you.” He demands.

Colton looks like he is about ready to pounce on my father. The anger was pouring off him. “Of course, Father, I’d never dare disgrace your name again with my failure of a marriage.”

He rolls his eyes and looks at me before he takes off into the house.

I wish I could help my brother, but unfortunately, he’s run off inside the house so I have to go in to find him.

“You shouldn’t have blindsided him that way. You know this will not end well.” I point out.

“I expect you to ensure it does,” my father says.

“I will not take her side. I will not push him to take her back. Colton deserves better as I’ve told you numerous times.”

“Preston, I expect you to do as I say.”, with that he turns on his heel and walks back to the dining room.

I am about to turn back and go to the car to wait for Colton, there is no way I want to stay here. Colton has his phone, I’ll just text him.

Then Dr. Edwards and his wife came up to the door. I haven’t seen him since I moved to Lupine Valley.

“Hey, Preston! Good to see you! How are you doing?” He reaches out to shake my hand.

“Hey! I’m great, how are things going for you in Boston at the new hospital?” I clasp Mrs. Edwards’ hand and kiss her gently on the cheek.

“Wonderful. I love it, and not having to live separately from this beauty during my shifts is a breath of fresh air. We’re like newlyweds! How about you, meet any women up there in the mountains?” He jokes.

“Actually, I’m dating Scarlett Harper, do you remember her?” I ask him.

“Oh, Scarlett Harper! You are a lucky man, Preston. She’s beautiful, and the sweetest soul.” Mrs. Edwards gushes as we walk through the house. It idly crosses my mind that she is talking as if she knows Scarlett well.

As I approach the large open concept, almost sterile looking kitchen, dining area, and living room I see many of my old colleagues and their spouses. Most of whom I actually enjoy the company of. But I need to find Colton before dinner. Maybe if we can just get through dinner we can make an excuse for a quick get away before dessert.

Dinner is served as ostentatiously as I expected.

Gold rimmed plates.
