I stand there with the hot water running over my body. I’m so lost in my own head that I don’t even get to appreciate the temperature or the way it warms me up.
I have no idea how long I stand there motionless, but eventually, the door opens and then a booming voice brings me back to reality.
“Are you trying to starve me or something?” Wilder barks from the other side of the curtain.
“What the fuck, man?”
“You’re taking forever. I want to eat.”
“Get out,” I shout.
“No, you get out.”
“I’m not done,’ I argue.
“Then you’d better hurry up, because dinner is ready and I’m ravenous. Wash your teeny weeny and get out.”
I huff in irritation.
“What? It’s not like I haven’t seen it a lot recently,” he adds. “I already know how much smaller it is than mine.”
My lips purse and my teeth grind.
It’s not true. I know it’s not. And yet, it still knocks me.
What if she prefers his?
“Unless you’ve got Noelle in there sucking you off—which I know you don’t, by the way—finish the fuck up and get out.”
“Fine,” I hiss, grabbing the shower gel and flipping the lid open as if it’s offended me.
I give myself a once-over before killing the water and stepping out.
“Fuck’s sake,” I mutter under my breath when I find my brother standing in the middle of the room buck naked.
He’s everything every guy wants to be, and every inch of what women want. There isn’t a single inch of his body that isn’t toned and defined. He looks just like the models on the front of some of Noelle’s books.
And while I might also be in good shape, I’ve got nothing on him. Not really.
“What?” he asks as if he doesn’t have a care in the world.
“Nothing,” I hiss, reaching for a towel and wrapping it around my waist.
“Bro?” Wilder asks, not moving from his spot. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Jesus, I’m turning into a woman.
Wilder barks out a laugh, clearly not believing a word I’m saying.
“She loves you, man. You,” he states, poking me in the chest, proving that he’s not as selfish as many would believe him to be. “She doesn’t want me, not really. She wants you.”
“Wilder,” I complain, not wanting to get into this with him.
"What? It’s true. I’m just here for the fun. Tomorrow, she won’t even remember me. All she needs is you.” The tone of his voice changes as he says those final words, and I swear I see something flicker in his eyes. But before I get a chance to decipher it, it’s gone and he’s stepping past me.
“Get out there and let her show you herself. Just don’t eat all the tacos. I might die of starvation otherwise.”
I roll my eyes as the sound of the running shower fills the room again.
