“Then why do you doubt that you’re mine?”
I hold his gaze. “Like I said, you never asked.”
“Lilith?”
“Yes?”
“Will you be my girlfriend?”
I grin. “Yes.”
His lips brush against mine. “Now thatthatis settled, let’s go home.”
“I’m liking where this is going.”
He hums. “Oh, I think you’ll like it very much.”
Over the next month, Dimitri and I fall into a routine with the kids that makes me feel like we’re an actual family. We eat together. We go on day trips together. We’re all there when Raquel crawls for the first time. But, through it all, I can’t help but feeling like the other shoe is about to drop.
Adam has reached out once in that time.
Adam
We need to talk.
Unless you want to tell me you want to tell your father and my uncle to fuck off, we have nothing to say.
Your uncle is being aggressive. I’m worried about you.
Don’t contact me, Adam. I’m fine.
I blocked his number after that.
I’ve just returned from getting my cast removed at Dimitri’s office. He was in a surgery case, so his PA removed it. Now, I’m at home, trying to get used to how strange my wrist feels. I wiggle it and immediately get icked out at how floppy it feels. Shelene said it’s a very normal feeling.
Miranda and the kids walk in as I finally get comfortable on the couch.
Miranda asks, “How is the arm feeling?”
“Really weird,” I answer.
“I bet it was a relief to get that cast off.”
“It was.”
She points to Isadora and Raquel. “I’m going to put them down. They’re ready for a nap.”
Diego follows her, yawning to himself. The poor kid is going to have a rough time when school starts in a few weeks.
The thought has me stilling. Summer is almost over. How is that even possible?
Clara sits next to me and asks, “Why does Nanny Odell think you andPapaiare dating?”
“She said that?”
Clara nods. “She was on her phone talking to a friend.”
Well, shit.
