“Did I do something wrong?” I question Jensen.

“Office. Now.”

I stare up at him with big, confused eyes, seeing the tension in his jaw and his narrowed eyes. He means business. “Okay.”

Jensen steps back and nods in the direction of his office, motioning for me to go first. That makes me even more nervous. What the hell did I even do?

I’ve been good all week! I haven’t been late. I haven’t missed any assignments or meetings. I’ve let him send me all over the damn building and city to get things done.

There hasn’t been a single day when I faltered or gave him the slightest excuse to chastise me like he did in front of Austin.

So, what gives?

I walk into his office and stop in front of his desk, expecting him to sit down in front of me and dish out whatever complaints he has about my performance or whatever I did.

Instead, I hear the door shut and the lock click behind me.

I whip around, my heart racing as I watch his fingers drift away from the lock. If it wasn’t clear before why he brought me here all alone, it’s clear now. Heat blooms within my reactive body, while my mind races.

I should tell him to unlock the door and let me get back to work. I should put my foot down for myself and get a grip on these intense thoughts of desire that go around and around in my head.

But I don’t do any of those things.

I wait for him to show me how he truly feels.

Chapter ten

Jensen

Afrustrated, heated haze clouds my mind as I lock my office door. Damn it, I shouldn’t be doing this, but I can’t bring myself to slow down. Much less stop.

The sound of her laugh as that guy charmed her and teased her echoes in my head, feeding into the rampant jealousy that unexpectedly struck me like a runaway train. She’s not even mine!

But after the moments we’ve shared together…there is a deep, dark part of me that wants her. Yearns for her.

I turn to face her, noting the beginning of a pink flush on her cheeks. She gets flustered so easily, which works me up even more. It’s an issue at this point because Ican’tbe reacting like this.

It’s wrong. It’s fucked up. She’s my assistant!

If anyone uncovers what we've done, the fallout would be catastrophic. Not just for me, but for the company, for her. The press would feast on the scandal, tearing down everything I’ve built brick by brick, and she’d be caught in the crossfire, her career in ruins.

We need to both stop for each other’s sakes and our own sakes.

But we don’t. We can’t. Not when we’re under a spell that we can’t seem to break.

“What were you doing out there?” I question her as I stalk closer to her, watching her step back until she hits the edge of my desk.

Alyssa shakes her head in confusion. “What do you mean? I was helping out with the app tester surveys.”

I let out a dry laugh as I stop a foot away from her, staring her down as she shrinks back a degree. “That guy. Do you make it a habit to flirt with guys on the job?”

Alyssa’s jaw drops. “Excuse me? I wasn’t flirting with him!”

“I don’t think I’ve ever heard you laugh that much,” I state as I place my hand on the desk next to her hip, leaning closer to her.

Alyssa’s breath hitches as mere inches separate our bodies. Her eyes sweep up my chest to my lips before darting away. “Don’t insult yourself like that, Jensen. Not everyone can be a comedian.”

Snarky little minx. That sharp tongue of hers should get her kicked to the curb, but something must be messed up in my brain because it just turns me on.
