Danny. She chewed on her lip.

“One minute, Erika!” Dax’s voice carried through the cabin with a stiff warning.

Chapter Twenty-One

Dax took off the lidfrom the grill to turn over the meat. It had been too long since he’d made a good steak. Grills weren’t exactly safe to use on an apartment balcony, no matter what the other people in his building thought.

Dax turned the heat down on the grill. Charcoal would have been his first choice, but he used what was available.

“Hey, Dax.” Devin walked around the corner of the cabin toward him.

“Hey.” Dax nodded his greeting. “What’s up?”

“This grill working okay for you?” Devin nodded toward the grill.

“Yeah.” Dax eyed him. “What’s wrong?”

Devin laughed. “Nothing. I just thought I’d come down to check in on you.”

“On me?” Dax laid the tongs on the shelf of the grill.

“Well, when I asked Erika, she just said you were fine—but in that evasive sort of way.”

“Erika?” Dax looked back at the cabin. “When did you talk to Erika?”

Devin slid his hands into his jean pockets. “Just a few minutes ago.” He paused. “At the main dungeon.”

Dax’s ears perked along with his jaw tightening. “She’s at the main dungeon?”
