Chapter Twenty-Five
Aubree stood outside a small boutique with Samuel, eating an ice cream cone while Addison and Kara shopped. She had used a small portion of the money Blake gave her on some dresses. He seemed partial to the sundresses he found in her closet, so she felt safe purchasing three more in a similar style.
She couldn’t say it didn’t feel good to think of him when looking at clothes. Although he never expressly said how he wanted her dressed, she picked up on the cues easily enough. He’d only brought the sundress and some yoga pants to the resort with her. Maybe he had planned to keep her naked the entire time. The idea made her smile.
But then her mind wandered to that video again. Blake would never let her go back with him. Not until he felt it was safe.
She popped the last bite of the vanilla cone in her mouth and reached down to rub Samuel’s head. “Sorry, boy, but that was too tasty to share.” He grumbled and turned away from her, flopping his tail on her sandaled feet.
Addison peeked her head out the shop door. “Hey, Aubree, Blake just texted. He wants us back in an hour, you sure you don’t want to come look in here? I can wait with Samuel outside.”
Blake had texted Addison because he’d kept Aubree’s phone. He wouldn’t let her even have her own cell phone on her. He wasn’t just protecting her, he was stuffing her away. And she’d worked too damn hard to be shoved in a corner for the rest of her life.
“No, I’m good. I think I’ll take Samuel to the car, though, listen to some music while you two finish up. Can I have the keys?”
Addison nodded. “Sure. One sec.” She went back in the store but came out only a moment later, handing her the keys to her SUV. “The ignition sticks a little. Trevor didn’t get a chance to take a look yet.”
“No problem. Thanks, I’ll meet you guys at the car, then.”
“Okay. I think Kara just has two more dresses to try on.”
“I thought she came to town for boots?”
Addison laughed. “Me, too,” she said, and disappeared back into the store.
Aubree walked down the street of the small town, Samuel right at her side. “Don’t look at me like that,” she said to her dog while smiling at a few passersby.
Once in the car, she put the keys in the ignition, working it until it turned and the engine sputtered to life. Samuel sat diligently in the passenger’s seat, staring at her. She could feel the disapproval rolling off of him.
“Samuel. I can’t let him die for me. I just can’t.”
He let out a low growl as she pulled onto the street.
“If Blake goes back alone to deal with this, he could get hurt. They’ll use him to get to me, too. Just like Luis.” She sped up to make through a yellow light. She didn’t know how much time it would take the girls to realize she’d left them. As soon as they did, they’d call the resort. And then she’d have to outrace at least one man in a truck, maybe two if they decided to pool their super dom powers.
“Just stop looking at me like that.” She flipped the radio on to drain out her thoughts and gunned the gas toward the on-ramp for I-94. Time to go home and take care of business.
Chapter Twenty-Six
“A spanking is too easy. No. I won’t spank her. I’m going take the single-tail to her ass, and her back, and her thighs.” Blake pointed a finger at Devin as he passed him in the living room of the house.
“Well, first we have to get her back. Then you can make all of those threats and not go through with a single one of them.” Devin picked up the keys sitting on the kitchen counter and dangled them from his finger.
“You think this is funny?” Blake stepped up to Trevor who stared at Addison with a grin on his face. Trevor had been the one to pick them up from town and bring them back to the small cabin where Blake had been doing his best to get a hold of anyone in Chicago.
“No.” Trevor shook his head but didn’t look at Blake. “I think it’s ironic. Don’t you think so, Addison? Coming outside to find your car stolen by a runaway heading to Chicago?”
Although Blake understood the joke, he didn’t have it in him to smile at the moment. He needed to get on the road. He needed to head her off before she did something even dumber than she already had.
“It’s not funny, Trevor. She’s in real danger.” Addison folded her arms over her chest and looked away.
“Danger doesn’t cover it. You didn’t see that video. If Jorge did that to his own fucking cousin, what do you think he’s going to do to her when he gets his hands on her?” Blake blocked the image forming in his mind. No fucking way. If one goddamn hair on her head even had a split end when he found her, everyone one of those gangbanging fucks would find themselves in a shallow grave.
“I’ll keep trying my contacts back in Chicago. There are still a few cops I trust.” Trevor slapped a hand on Blake’s back. “You try to get a hold of John.”
“She’s got at least a forty-five-minute start on me.” Blake dragged his hand through his hair, angry and scared. So fucking scared he wouldn’t get to her in time. “I should have waited here for her, not gone for a run.” Burning off some of the worry had seemed like a good idea at the time. But when he got back and found the girls stepping out of Trevor’s truck with no Aubree in sight, he’d nearly heaved up his breakfast.
“You’ll get to her,” Devin vowed.
