I said I’d drop by and give him a hand moving another load to his place.

His truck is parked out front when I pull up and I immediately hear his voice when I enter the barn,

“Yeah, honey. I’ll meet you in town in half an hour, unless you wanna stop home for a quickie while Blake’s at Sophie’s?”

I clear my throat as I walk in on a conversation I’m definitely not supposed to hear. He turns, not caring one bit as a big smile splits his face. “Sounds good, wear the red one with the snaps, baby.” He hangs up and slides his phone in his back pocket. “Sorry about that.” He coughs into his hand.

“Sounds like you have the rest of your afternoon lined up.”

“I’m trying to convince my wife we need to start making another baby.”

I laugh. “Didn’t know you were tryin’.”

He pops a shoulder. “Practice makes perfect.”

I laugh. “Back up, you said convincing?”

“Well, it’ll be hard on Blake, not that she wouldn’t love havin’ a baby brother or sister. She adores Trinity. But we haven’t even been back together a year yet. I guess I’m a little more eager than most.”

“Did I hear a whisper you were thinking about renewing your vows?”

Brook laughs a little sheepish. “Yup. We’re talkin’ about it, maybe after Callan and Celeste’s and Gray and Hart’s weddings.” He looks around and quickly adds in a hushed voice, “We did it right over there on our wedding night way back when, though. I had to get between all that tulle first. I don’t know who makes that shit but they’ve got a lot to answer for.”

I laugh, swiping a hand over my face and it’s then I hear an angel’s voice.Myfucking angel.

“Brook? Are you in here? Where do you want this?—”

Georgia comes bursting into the barn wearing gardening gloves and her fucking denim overall’s. My eyes nearly spring out of my head because I was not expecting to see her, and Brook never mentioned she was here. My overall fantasy is clearly alive and well, if my dick has anything to do with it.

“Oh, hey, Huds,” she says, blinking in rapid succession and then her eyes avert to the dusty ground of the hay barn.

I swallow and palm the back of my neck. “Hey, GB.”

We both stand in awkward silence as Brook looks at us both. “You two okay? You both look like someone just told you there was no Santa this year.”

Georgia smiles at him but it doesn’t reach her eyes.

“Yeah, uh, fine,” I mutter.

“I was just grabbing the straps for the hay.” A little glow of pink brushes her cheeks. She’s flushing from just seeing me? This is a good sign.

Brook looks at her and then back to me. “Okaaaay. Do you think you two can finish up here?” he asks with a cheeky smirk. “My wife is taking a detour home before we pick up Blake, tryin’ to make a baby can’t wait.”

“Oh, Brook! That’s fantastic!” Georgia claps her hands, then immediately wrinkles her nose. “But ew, TMI.”

He grins. “Yep, duty calls.”

I grunt a laugh. “You do what you need to.” I thump him on the back. “We can take it from here.”

“Alright, well, I better get goin’.” We watch him literally run to his truck to get to his wife.

I guess you can’t blame a guy.

He has a load of hay in the back of his truck and it doesn’t sound like he’ll be coming back for more right away.

I swallow hard as I look at this beautiful woman before me, knowing my heart wouldn’t beat any faster if I were being chased by wild bulls. “Hey,” I say, palming my neck again.

Shit. We already said our hellos.
