“I’m so happy for you,” I say to my sister, placing my hand back in my lap.
She laughs heartily, touching my cheek briefly. “I’m happy for you, too. It’s funny how everything worked out the way it was supposed to and now we have everything we want.”
“I know, right?”
She couldn’t explain our lives with better words. Everything absolutely did work out the way it was supposed to. Especially for me. I would never have found Jaxon or been with him if Natasha hadn’t gotten pregnant and run away with Alessandro.
“Everything was so dark and doomed with Dad.” She sighs and looks away, then a small smile curls her lips. “Now there is life. I just wish things could have been different with him.”
She looks back at me and I nod.
“Me too. But I don’t think they were ever going to change. Maybe only to get worse.” I release a ragged breath.
“You’re right. This is the way it had to be. Now we can finally move on.”
I smile back at her, deciding to talk about something lighter. “We can. And you never know, I may be the one delivering your baby the next time I see you.”
We both laugh.
“Yes, Mrs. Doctor. Mom would be so proud of you.”
“I hope so.”
“I know she would. She’d be happy you followed in her footsteps.”
Jaxon and Alessandro’s voices cut into my next words. The two walk onto the terrace displaying the fish they caught.
“Catch of the day.” Jaxon holds up a large fish, and a proud smile floats across his face. “Finally, I caught one.”
Alessandro laughs. “It takes practice.”
“No, I just suck at fishing, and you have more patience than me.”
Natasha and I exchange secret smiles, happy to see our guys getting on so well.
“I won’t argue with that,” Alessandro chuckles. “How about I get the fish prepped for tonight’s dinner?”
“Sure.”
“I’ll join you,” Natasha says to Alessandro, cutting me a quick glance because she knows I missed Jaxon.
I smile back at her and make my way toward my husband while she and Alessandro saunter away.
Jaxon spreads out his arms and pulls me in for a hug and a kiss I’ve been longing for.
“Missed me?”
“Of course.” I lean against him, my fingers tracing the scruff of his beard.
“It’s beautiful here.” He brushes his nose against mine. “And you’re even more beautiful here.”
“So are you.”
“Do you think they’d miss us for an hour? My body misses yours again.”
I giggle. “Mine misses you, too.”
“Then let’s go, Krasota.”
