“You’re going to be hell on any sense of control I’ve ever fucking had, aren’t you?” He stopped walking and let me slide down his body. “You want me to fuck you? Even though you’re sore? Fine. Get that ass up to the lookout and I’ll fuck you until you scream loud enough to wake up the rest of the resort.”
I nodded at the promise in his voice and spun away from him. I sprinted up the trail, eager to get what I wanted. He kept up with me easily, laughing as he did.
“Don’t hurt yourself, dammit!” He let me run the rest of the way and then wrapped his arms around my waist as soon as we were in the clearing of the lookout.
I pressed my ass into him and groaned when I felt that he was already hard for me. “Now, Luke.”
He worked his hand up my shirt and gripped my breast even as he walked me closer to the railing that blocked the edge of the small cliff. “You’re a needy little thing, aren’t you?”
I reached back to grip his hair. “For you.”
“Fuck, Maggie. Get these pants off. Now.” He gripped the band of my leggings before I had the chance to and was in the middle of yanking them down when a shocked voice broke through our lusty haze.
“Lucas?!”
I screamed and yanked away from Luke, nearly toppling over the railing. Thankfully, he caught me and then pulled his hands out of my clothes before looking over at the bench where his father was sitting.
“Dad?”
I hid behind Luke’s back, so mortified that I almost wished he’d let me fall over the cliff. I wanted to get out of there so desperately but I didn’t know how to leave the situation without making it worse than it already was.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing, Lucas?” His dad’s voice was deep like Jackson’s but just as smooth as his. “You can stop hiding, Maggie. I already saw you and even if I didn’t, my son was growling your name like an animal for anyone to hear.”

***Maggie***
Istepped out from behind Luke and forced a sweet smile. “Oh, hello, Mr. Heath. Funny running into you here. Is Sharon around? I haven’t seen her at the lodge with Brad so…”
Luke gripped the back of my neck in a possessive move that his dad definitely noticed. “Maggie and I were just out for a hike. I thought we’d have privacy up here.”
“Obviously. I guess I should be grateful you’re not flaunting this tryst in front of your brother. He’s got enough going on without having to see…this.” He motioned at me with a flick of his wrist that somehow summed me up as trash in one small motion. “Sharon won’t be happy. Thank god she isn’t flying in until the day before the wedding.”
I stiffened and looked up at Luke. “I should go.”
He searched my face and then turned a dark scowl at his dad. “It wouldn’t make a difference to me if Brad, or Sharon, saw us. They ’ll notice at some point or another when I’m with Maggie from now on.”
“Oh, come on, Lucas. Bradley went through this phase because he was young and dumb. You hardly have that excuse. Let the girl go back to work.”
I felt so small under his unhappy gaze. I wrapped my arms around my waist and sent a pleading look Luke’s way. “Please, Luke.”
He let go of my neck just to grab my hand. “I’ll come with you. I don’t want to stay here anymore than you do.”
“Lucas.”
“You should be grateful she’s here or you’d be getting ripped a new one right now.” Luke let me go and stepped closer to his dad. Talking under his breath, he tried to keep me from hearing the rest of what he said but I caught it anyway. “You need to remember who signs your checks. Hurt her and you’ll find yourself struggling to keep yourself afloat.”
I started walking down the trail, pretending like I hadn’t heard the last part of his threat. He caught up to me in seconds and held my hand again. I couldn’t look at him. His dad had succeeded in reminding me of my place that easily.
“Goddammit, Maggie. Stop and look at me.” When I didn’t, he put himself in my way and refused to budge. “Unless you want me to lose my fucking cool and go back to throw my dad off a cliff, you’ll look at me, Maggie. Now.”
Slowly looking up, I met his hard gaze. “I just want to go back to the resort, Luke. I don’t want to talk about it. Please.”
He blew out a sharp breath. “Alright. I can’t argue with you when you say please like that. This isn’t over, though, Maggie.”
I had to bite my lip hard the rest of the way back to the resort to keep from crying. It was embarrassing that the judgment of a mean old man could leave me in shambles but it hurt my feelings how easily he hated me. I was a likable person and I tried to make sure I was kind to everyone. None of that matteredto Mr. Heath, though. To him, I was just never going to be good enough.
Before we reached the lodge, Luke pulled me to a stop and wrapped me in his arms. “It won’t happen again.”
