And then, instead of the two of them freaking out or making it worse, they do something that somehow makes it even morebewildering: they start having a casual, almost businesslike conversation about it. As if I’m not sitting right between them.

Derek tilts his head, thinking. “Well, I mean… I’ve had a bit more experience, so I could make sure she’s comfortable.”

Sebastian looks contemplative, nodding slowly. “True, but I’m also… you know, a virgin. So maybe it’d be better if we’re on the same level for her first time.”

I’m staring at them, my mouth slightly open, as they continue to calmly debate this.

“Yeah, but I know how to take it slow,” Derek argues, tapping his chin thoughtfully. “I think I’d be better at easing her into it.”

Sebastian shrugs. “That’s fair. But I think it’d be a bit more special if it’s with someone going through the same thing, right?”

I can’t believe what I’m hearing. These two are discussing, with straight faces, who should get to be my first, like it’s a class project they’re trying to divide up evenly. My brain can’t keep up with this absurdity.

“Okay, okay, stop!” I finally say, throwing my hands up in the air, utterly overwhelmed. “I’m not even sure I’m ready for any of this yet! I just wanted to have the conversation, not… whatever this is.”

The boys stop their discussion and look at me, their expressions softening. Derek reaches over and squeezes my hand. “Z, we’re not rushing you into anything. You can take as long as you need.”

Sebastian nods in agreement. “He’s right. We both want you, but this isn’t something you need to rush into. We’ll wait until you’re ready. No pressure.”

I feel a wave of relief wash over me, though I’m still flustered beyond belief. It’s… comforting, knowing that despite all their teasing and banter, they really do care about how I’m feeling.

I let out a deep breath, relaxing slightly between them. “Thanks… I just… I needed to get that off my chest.”

Derek grins, the tension breaking as he nudges me again. “Hey, no worries. We’ve got all the time in the world.”

Sebastian leans in, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear. “And when you’re ready… you’ll know exactly what you want.”

I can’t help but roll my eyes again, but there’s a smile tugging at the corners of my lips. “You two are insufferable, you know that?”

Derek chuckles. “Yeah, but you wouldn’t have us any other way.”

And a Rubik’s cube?

Isit sideways on the bed, legs tucked beneath me, my back pressed up against the wall as I try to focus on filling in more of my grimoire. The boys, sprawled across my room as if they own the place, are deep in conversation about one of their shared classes—something I’m not part of, because, you know, witches are human. But shifters and vampires? Apparently, they’ve got their own little club.

Their discussion is weird, though. I mean, I’ve overheard them talking about assignments before, but this one sounds downright bizarre. Derek’s complaining about something involving "animal instincts under pressure," while Sebastian seems less concerned and more amused by the whole thing.

“Honestly, it’s just dumb. They expect us to handle transformations while solving puzzles?” Derek grumbles, stretching his arms over his head. "Like, who cares if I can shift into a wolf and also complete a Rubik’s cube under stress?"

Sebastian chuckles, leaning back in my desk chair. “It’s about control, wolf boy. You know that. They want to see if you can suppress the urge to bite someone when you’re in wolf form and simultaneously figure out what three plus three is.”

“That’s the worst part,” Derek mutters. “Everyone knows what three plus three is."

I smirk to myself, their banter filtering into my mind as I scribble another line into the grimoire. Their assignment does sound a little ridiculous, but then again, being part of a class that’s specifically for non-humans must come with its quirks.

It also gives me an idea.

My mind starts racing as I think of a fun spell—a hex that could turn non-human beings into humans, just for a short burst of time. Imagine! It’d be great for keeping werewolves from getting all bite-happy on a full moon, or for temporarily taking away someone’s powers when they’re getting a little too big for their supernatural britches.

Not to mention, it could be a lifesaver for someone like Skylar. If mermaids can cast minor hexes, which I’m pretty sure they can, she’d probably get a kick out of this one. Being able to neutralize someone’s supernatural advantage for a moment? Yeah, I’m thinking that might come in handy.

I quickly jot down the rough outline of the spell in the margins of my notebook.
