“Sam, we need to do something about covering your scent.”
She shakes her head. “We can’t– not you and I– not the first time— not because of this.”
I pull her against my body, feeling her every curve as it presses against my hard body. “We won’t do this because we have to. We’ll do this because we love each other and we want to. Getting rid of the green dragon will just be an added bonus.”
Her hands slide up and down my chest, and my cock hardens. “But this won’t mean that we’re exclusive. It can’t mean that. Not now. Not with how complicated things are with me.”
Of course this will mean we’re exclusive, that we’re together. In my mind, we were already together in every way that mattered. I’m not going to share her or ever be without her again, but that’s not what she needs to hear right now. If I tell her the truth, she won’t sleep with me. She’ll want to find some other fucking asshole to hide her scent, and that’s never going to happen, so as much as I hate lying, this situation calls for a white lie.
“Agreed. We’re not together. This is sex between two people who love each other and need to cover your scent. That’s all.”
She seems to debate for a minute as she stares up at my face, but I hide my feelings behind a mask. “Okay,” she says.
I lean down and take her lips with mine, and it’s like fire burns between us. Her lips are soft and full and welcoming, and all mine. I kiss her hard, crushing her mouth against mine. When her lips spread to take a breath, my tongue dives inside.
She whimpers, pressing herself against my erection, and the rush of desire to my crotch shocks me. I pull back from her, worried for the first time in my life that I might lose control from a kiss.
“We need to find a hotel,” I say, grabbing her hand.
She laughs as I start dragging her back toward the parking lot, but she won’t be laughing for long.
FIVE
Samantha
The motel isn’tan expensive one, but it’s clean and well-maintained. The paint is a startling white and the trim is a deep green that pops against the pale background. Aydan is leading Granger and I, striding so fast he’s almost running. I’d be amused if I wasn’t so nervous.
I’m going to have sex with Aydan. My best friend. Someone I’ve wanted for as long as I knew what it was to want someone. And Evander? He might be dead. But either way, I feel a little like I’m betraying him. It’s a stupid feeling. We aren’t a couple. We aren’t anything. Just two dragons unable to keep our hands off of each other.
Things have changed. I can’t just head to the base, no matter how much I want to. My scent needs to be covered, and there’s only one way to do it. This whole thing makes sense on paper, but in the real world, it feels so difficult. Like everything is happening too fast.
“So, this is your room,” Aydan says, directing Granger to the motel room door and holding out a card key.
Granger seems exhausted and defeated. Not that I blame him after all he’s been through. “You made sure I’m not next door to you?”
Aydan smiles, and it reaches his eyes. “We’ll be in Room 6, so a good four doors down.”
“You should know, if I hear anything, I’m complaining to management,” he grumbles, grabbing the card key from Aydan.
My cheeks heat. “You won’t!”
“She doesn’t strike me as a screamer,” Aydan says, with a shit eating grin.
“Aydan!” I say, smacking his chest.
Granger slides his key in the door, and the door opens. He turns to us with a tired wave, his eyes on the ground. “Well, have funnotresting. I’m going to enjoy the nap of my life.”
For some reason, I close the distance between us and pull him into a hug. “Thanks for finding me.”
He hugs me tightly right back. “We’ll always find you, Sam. We’re the Wolf Pack. It’s what we do.”
I release him and step back, and I think for a minute the guys are going to “bro out” and embarrass me further, but Granger just ducks inside. Maybe because Aydan is strutting around like he just won the lottery. It’d be funny if I wasn’t so nervous about having sex with my best friend. About this changing everything between us. Once the proverbial dick comes exploding out of the box, we can’t put it back.
Aydan slips his hand in mind and leads me to Room 6. My heart races faster with every step we take. He slides the card key in the door and pushes it open, gesturing for me to go first. I step into the darkened room, and Aydan follows behind, letting the door close behind us. He’s right behind me, too close, and I don’t want to turn around.
“Sam?” he says.
My heartbeat fills my ears.
