Her mouth hung open. “He can do that, too?”

“Yes, Little girl. He was able to do this before, but if you say, “Follow Daddy’s scent,” he’ll recognize it and take you to me. I wanted you to feel safe and be able to find me when you’re with him.”

How thoughtful of him.

“Thank you,” she whispered, feeling herself getting all emotional.

“I didn’t want to make you cry. I needed him to recognize the command so he would take you to me.”

She wrapped her arms around Daddy and melted as his arms wrapped around her.

“Thank you again.”

“Anytime, Little girl. I love you, too.”

Rainey pulled away from him and smiled.

“If you need anything, call out or come to me.”

“I will.”

“Have fun, but not too much.”

Daddy kissed her forehead once again, and she watched as he walked toward his office. Her heart started beating faster as he left the room. She was all alone with the other Littles.

Dane pushed his nose into her leg and barked.

“I’m okay,” she whispered, petting his head before turning to the group. They were all staring at her with big smiles on their faces.

Maybe she wasn’t okay.

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

MARCO

Marco couldn’t focus on the work in front of him. His sole thought was of Rainey and how she was doing. He knew she was nervous about hanging out with the other Littles. He hated it, but he also knew it was good for her to be a little anxious and to hang out with them. He couldn’t coddle her every single time she got nervous. He wanted her to flourish and live her life, creating friends she could rely on .

And she couldn’t do that if he was keeping her next to him whenever she was anxious.

To ease his worries, he had the camera feed for the main room on his computer. It was covered by other windows, but he had the volume up, so if anything happened, he would hear. That was the only way he was surviving right now. It also eased his worries, knowing Dane was with her. He would do anything to protect her if there was a threat.

“How’s everything going?” Leo asked as he walked into his office with his brother,Oliver.

Marco sighed, knowing he definitely wasn’t going to get any work done now. They weren’t in his schedule about anything security-related. So it was a social call, but he couldn’t blame them since he hadn’t been in the office in several days.

“Some struggles like any relationship, but it’s been good. How’s everything with you guys?” he asked.

“Oh, come on, give us something else besides, there’s ‘been some struggles, but it’s been good.’ We didn’t come here just to hear you say that. We want details,” Leo exclaimed.

“Can I get Kirk’s number from Hedda?” Marco completely ignored Leo’s last statement.

“Why ?” Oliver asked.

“To find her ex.”

He didn’t know all the details, but there was enough to know her ex was not good. He wanted somebody to look into him. Ultimately, he wanted to keep her safe, and not knowing who or where he was, was dangerous. He could have asked Ezra if one of the guys in his company could do it, but Marco knew he wouldn’t get everything. They were law-abiding citizens, whereas Kirk wasn’t. Marco knew he could find things that people wanted to hide.

He needed to know who they were dealing with. Did he need to keep her safe? Was she in danger? There were so many questions left unanswered, and he needed to find the answers.
