She pushed her face into his neck, where it met his shoulder. It was one of her favorite spots to relax into.

“My little cuddle bug,” he whispered. “Daddy’s little cuddle bug.”

Daddy walked into the house and toward the bathroom. The tub was huge; it could fit both of them in there.

“Can we do this more often?” she asked.

“Once a week? Or once a day?”

She thought about it for a second as Daddy sat her on the toilet seat.

“Once a day, but that is a lot. Maybe once or twice a week?”

Daddy cupped her face. “We can make once a day work. We can make it a priority.”

Rainey opened her mouth but quickly closed it.

“Ah, what was that thought?” Daddy asked.

“Nothing.”

“Not acceptable.”

She sighed. “I just… What happens when the baby comes? Will we still be able to do it?”

“Of course. We can do it whenever our baby is down for a nap. We can get someone to come over and babysit while we take the bath. It doesn’t have to stop once you haveourbaby.”

There he was again, saying their baby and not her baby.More and more it was becoming a reality. He was taking responsibility for a baby he didn’t create.

“We’ll figure it out together. I’m not going to leave you. I’ve already told the boys I will be working from home for the first three months, at least after you give birth.”

“You can’t!”

“Why not?”

“What about money? What if you lose your job?”

Daddy chuckled and shook his head. “I’ve been working a lot of overtime, creating a lot of PTO. They can do without me being in the club for at least three months. It’s not like I’m stopping work altogether. Maybe for the first couple weeks, but then I’ll slowly transition to doing only important things from home.”

“What if they get angry at you? Or me?”

“Never. They would never get angry at either one of us for me taking paternity leave. I promise you. Mac will be taking some in several months. His Little is pregnant.”

“Oh.”

Daddy ran his hand through her hair. “Yeah, oh. Everything is going to work out. They are all excited for you and me. They’ve already started talking about making meals.”

“The girls talked about that as well. Told me to let them know when I had the baby so they could drop food off.”

“They already love you.”

“I don’t know.” She was unsure about that.

“They do. I promise. Do you know how excited they were when they came back to the club after talking to you?”

She shook her head.

“They were already making plans to come again. Making plans to have a playdate with you. They love you.”
