“Then what?”
“Protective.”
“You don’t even know her.”
Deccan shrugged. “She reminds me of my sister I lost when I was younger. I was protective of her, and now I’m protective of Rainey.”
“Stay away from her.”
Deccan smiled. “Tough luck. She’s friends with Echo, and she reminds me of my sister. Get in the way and you’ll pay.”
Before Marco could reply, his phone started to ring.
“Hello?” he answered.
“Rainey. She needs you,” Dominic rushed out.
Rainey’s screams came through the phone.
“I’ll be there in a minute,” he replied and hung up. “We’re not done with this.” Marco looked at Deccan.
“If Rainey needs anything done to people, and I mean anything, have her contact me. I’ll even do it free of charge. Call it a sibling rate.”
Marco glared at Deccan as he got into the car.
“No.”
“If you don’t, I’ll text her and let her know. I’ll visit you guys at some point and let her know. Expect me sometime soon.”
CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE
RAINEY
She walked toward the buzzing phone that was sitting at the table. Who was calling her at this time? Rubbing her belly, she picked up the phone. Not a call, but several texts.
Furrowing her eyebrows, she opened them.
Rainey screamed as she saw a picture of Pete—dead. His soulless eyes looked through her. Moving back, she shook her head several times.
“This is not happening,” she whispered to herself. “I didn’t just see what I think I did.”
She took a deep breath, keeping her eye on the phone. Fingers reached through the screen. Her eyes went wide, not believing what she was seeing.
“Nope. That’s not happening.”
But as the fingers turned into arms, which turned into Pete’s head going through the screen, Rainey screamed. Heart beating fast, she took several steps back, andher back hit the wall.
“No.”
Pete’s lifeless eyes looked right at her.
“Rainey,” he called out.
“No,” she screamed, trying to push herself away from the wall, but her body wouldn’t budge. Wetness filled her diaper as Pete smiled, his pale, lifeless eyes boring into her soul.
“Rainey. Wake up.”
“Please!” she begged as Pete slowly made his way toward her.
