"She's fine. It's just a little mimosa, right, Bobby?" Avery states.
Dax freezes, and the color drains from his face. His voice turns so cold, a shiver runs down my spine. He demands, "Bobby, tell me you didn't."
Bobby crosses his arms and stays silent.
Avery interjects, "Stop being a downer, Dax."
"We're leaving, now!" Dax asserts, pulling me toward the door.
I stumble, and he pulls me closer.
"Dax, what are you doing? She can't leave. We're inducting her into Gamma Sigma Phi," Avery shouts.
"Bullshit," he says, tugging me closer to the front of the house.
"Dax, no!" I object.
He continues to maneuver me, leading me to the front door and yanking it open.
"Dax, stop! I have to get inducted!" I slur.
He doesn't listen.
"Dax!" I pull on his arm, and he spins to face me.
He picks me up and throws me over his shoulder.
I shriek, "Dax! What are you doing?" I knee him in the chest.
He takes his hand and smacks my ass. "Don't do that."
"Dax!" I shout again.
Avery and Bobby say something, but I can't make out what it is. Everything starts to spin.
Dax gets to his car, opens the passenger door, and puts me inside. He buckles my seat belt.
I try to push at him. "What are you doing? You're ruining my day."
"You'll thank me later," he claims, then shuts the door.
I don't have the energy to try to get out. I suddenly feel extremely intoxicated.
Dax gets into the car and peels away from the sorority house.
I stay quiet, my head spinning.
When we pull up to the cottage, he turns to me. "Ivy, you can't return to the sorority house. You're not going to be part of Gamma Sigma Phi."
"What are you talking about? Of course I am," I declare, unbuckling my seat belt and finding a new surge of energy.
He grabs my arm. "I mean it. You're not joining."
I shrug out of his grasp and get out of the car. "I don't know why you're talking like this. I am joining Gamma Sigma Phi. You wanted me to. I did all those things foryou!"
He grinds his molars.
My pulse picks up. "Why did you ruin my induction? I worked hard to get in there."
