"This looks amazing," I state.

"It is. Eat it." He spears a piece of tomahawk on his fork and holds it in front of my mouth.

I bite into the meat, and it melts in my mouth. I moan, never having tasted a steak this good.

He chuckles. "Told you it's delicious."

"It is," I agree. I take a bite of mac and cheese, then another.

Dax says, "Yeah, there's no way any woman around here would eat that. It's full of fat and carbs."

I glance at the gooey dish, but this time, I feel guilty.

Maybe I shouldn't eat anymore.

"Yeah, I'm really glad you eat normal food," Dax states again, then takes a bite himself.

I tell myself to stop being silly. I put another forkful in my mouth, and the creamy cheese tastes amazing. I ask, "Do they always bring the food out this fast?"

Dax shrugs. "Depends what I want."

"How do they know what you want?"

"Because when I made my reservation, I told them we needed to be served quickly."

"Oh. Why is that? Are we going somewhere else?"

Dax nods. "Yeah, back to my place. Do you think I can stand it very long with you in this outfit?"

I bite on my smile.

He drags his finger down my bare shoulder. "No way, my little slut. This needs to come off and soon."

I softly laugh, teasing, "You have a one-track mind, don't you?"

He drags his eyes over my body in the lewd way he always does and then answers, "If it's about you? Yeah."

My heart once again soars. Being everything to Dax and having his full attention is the most amazing thing in the world. I wonder how I ever lived without these feelings.

But my bliss is interrupted.

Avery steps next to the table with a lanky guy. He has a few zits, clean-cut dark hair, and thick glasses. He pushes them up on his nose and looks slightly uncomfortable when Dax says, "Matt. Never thought I'd see you in this place."

"He's with me," Avery states, sliding her arm through his.

"Only way he'd ever get in here," Dax claims.

"You should talk with who you're with," Avery replies.

My gut dives. I seethe, "Why do you have to be so mean all the time?"

"Aw," she says, tilting her head and looking at me with pity, adding, "Can the new girl not handle the truth?"

"Shut up, Avery," Dax orders.

Uncomfortable silence fills the air.

The guy holds out his hand in front of me. "I'm Matt."
